Interesting debate. Lots of good points made. It'll be a pity if he didn't actually use the negrito word

Particularly interested in the ramifications of the Hernandez quote. That seems to throw a whole new light on the useage of the term.

Yes, I do believe Suarez's ethnic origin is a factor in all of this.
=====================

It may be but it's Enland and our laws that count.

Too bad eh but those are the breaks.
==============================================

I think Gus Poyet has stated the case fairly eloquently. The need to understand another culture and the diversity of language and meaning.

As I said, there's a sense that Suarez appears to be being discriminated against on the basis of his ethnic origin.

Trust Ferg to wade in. That great polymath and trusted purveyor of Uruguayan culture.

Anyone who thinks that footballers immerse themselves into the culture to which their employer resides is living in cloud cuckoo land.

Footballers today are as far removed from the society (and culture) that they earn their money in as you or anyone else here is as far removed from the kind of lives that celebrities born in the country that we reside in live their lives.

Is that an excuse? Well, in all honesty, yes it probably is.

If we can all laugh at Tevez for saying there are only two restuarants in Manchester, and indeed use Tevez' comment as a stick in which to beat Manchester with, then we all, even if only inadvertantly, become compliant in that very fact.

Think about it.
