Tough start away in Kazakhstan, two tough away games in Austria and Germany in our third and second last games. I'd be happy with 7 points from the first three games before going away to Sweden.

This is going to be such a tough group. Germany are overwhelming favorites and are my bet for the euros at 4/1. They hammered holland the other night as well.
Sweden are always tough and qualify for the vast majority of world and european cups. Barring SA 2010 i think.
Kazakhstan will be tough for location if nothing else but the final game at home against them could be vital.
Austria are pretty poor and we would hop for 4 points minimum. As for the Faroes, anything less than 6 and we will not qualify.
without going too negative as we prepare for the euro finals, i think this will be a really tricky group to get out of. I think we will rely on sweden droopping points here and there just as slovakia did for the euros. CYBIG

Play off is the best we can probably expect . Im fairly confident we're good enough to finish second. Nice cash windfall for the Fai with the German and Swedish tv rights as well.

Germans have the group wrapped up. They're looking great and I fancy them to overtake Spain over the next couple of years as the best team in the World. Between ourselves and the Swedes for second. We need to pick up 4 points from our games against them.

Dont rule out Austria. They are one of our bogey teams. Historically we have had some shocking results against them. I would have slight worries about our side being a bit old by next September.

I think we could give Germany a game. They would find it hard to break us down. That said, the difference between both teams would be, while we will struggle against the so called 'smaller' teams, the Germans will be knocking 6 past them

Sweden as 2nd seeds was one of the worst draws we could've got really.
Think we're best off enjoying the Euros and not worrying too much about it for now! And if the worst comes to the worst in WC qualifying there are 24 teams at the next Euros so surely we'll be at at?!

Its definitely a tough group Pogued. Our hardest since the 1982 WC Qualifiers when we drawn with France,Holland and Belgium (remember Belgium were beaten Finalists in the 1980 European Championships)!!

Yeah you see this is why we spent all that money on Trappatoni because thanks to those dreadful campaigns under Staunton and Kerr we are 3rd seeds and find ourselves lumped in with two of the most in form sides in Europe. Extremely tough draw.
All we can hope for is a scenario similar to the WC 2002 qualifying group where the players raised their game tenfold and managed great results against Holland and Portugal
Still even if we don't do it, if Trap stays for the next campaign then at the very least we'll have a chance of moving further up the FIFA rankings and into the 2nd seed pot so we can avoid these kind of sht draws in the future.

Good points Larry. Well whatever happens in the future at least we've got the not qualifying for a major tournament in 10years Monkey off our backs
