At the moment 4-4-2 is something I really dislike about Kenny's methods this season. I can understand that Kenny wants to create the strike relationship of Suarez and Carroll, but I feel the negatives outweigh the positives. Players like Adam, Henderson and Kuyt have struggled in the formation. Adam doesn't have the pace or energy to work in a two man midfield, Henderson doesn't have the ability to play on the right and wants to move inside, and Kuyt works better when he has a three man midfield protecting him. Other players like Maxi, Bellamy, Gerrard...all work better in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.
With the players we currently have I would want to see Benitez's famous 4-2-3-1 being used.
-----------------------------------Reina
Johnson/Kelly-----Carra/Skrtel--------Agger------------Enrique
--------------------------Lucas-------Adam/Henderson
Kuyt/Maxi---------------------Gerrard----------------Bellamy/Downing
-----------------------------------Suarez
The formation allows for better rotation of players, but still keeps a similar feel throughout games. Carroll and Suarez remind me of the Keane and Torres problem that we had under Benitez, and its all to do with the formation. The soloution for me would be, putting Suarez outwide like Kuyt and Bellamy, but with just as much freedom as he currently has. I feel he is capable of this, just like Villa has done for Spain and Barcelona. I know many fellow fans would not agree, but its the best way to merge Carroll into the side.
If we are going to get top four this season, then Kenny needs to change the system. It works best for the squad, but maybe not so much for the Suarez and Carroll partnership.
Suarez, Carroll and Formation.

I think we would pose more problems to Chelsea without Carroll in the team especially if they stick to playing a high line.

----Downing----Hendo-Lucas-Adam-Bellamy-

That's what I hope we go with.

Born and bred
I think Kenny has shown flexibilty in tactics. I can't see us getting into the top four. That's more down to a lack of quality rather than a lack of good tactics.

Reina
johnson skrtl carra agger enrique
----lucas
Hendo ----- maxi
Kuyt---- suarez
plays 3-5-2 with johnson/enrique playing as out and out wing backs.
Can also move to 4-5-1 if sufficient cover not being provided in midfield.
Glassi tonight red?

Completely agree OP.
At least do this until Carroll hits form. I don't think the stance being taken now is working, ie. playing Carroll until he hits form.
