When the Unrepentant become Untouchable

"It's the case with all of the major sponsorships we enter into. One of the conditions is that Celtic and Rangers remain part of the league.
"It is also a condition that they play each other four times a season. That's been with us for the entirety of the deal with Sky and before that with Setanta."

There you have it folks. Regardless of the nature of any outcome for Rangers in the Tax liability or otherwise we have it confirmed that for the "good of the game" they will not fall below 6th place in the SPL.

Now through natural game play this scenario would be unlikely even with the removal of key players, however what this means is that a points deduction will be no more than 10 and that league demotion is now a cert not to happen should administration be entered into.

All things are now in place for Rangers FC to 'clear the decks' of all baggage and start again.

With only days left before Rangers must submit accounts for the period it seems that all financial info is being held until the last second. You have to wonder why this information is being withheld for so long also and perhaps the rumours of cashflow being concerning have foundation.

So when will the unrepentant become untouchable? Seems like now to be honest...

I don't see it as sad, probably as I'm a Rangers fan.

But from the point of view of the other 10 clubs, it is surely a good thing. While with us here they have no chance of winning the league etc, with less money the quality in their sides would only drop further.

It does undermine the integrity of the competition somewhat, purely because if Rangers were to go into admin, and struggled to get out, the beaks would be left with a real dilemma.

Every 2-bit team in the spl will want Rangers to remain in the top 6 so that their t.v. cash is secure.

So. Imagine the scenario. Rangers, playing their final game before the split. They have just recently been hit with a 25 point penalty

(again, no laughing at the back, this is just for talking sake)

They are at Tannadice. Stripped down squad. What do you think Utd's chairman would be thinking? What about the ref/linesmen?

Basically, it has the potential to turn our game into an even greater joke. Just for the lucre.

What if Rangers actually do go bust?

You know, assets, fixed and otherwise, auctioned off?

If, on the off-chance, they lost the tax case. What happens with the t.v. deal then?

Interesting times ahead, that's all I will say.

Without getting into a debate I'm not qualified for Dos, would Rangers not prefer the 10p in the £ scenario? Well, Craig Whyte anyway?

Ach, who knows what will happen. But. The tv deal has all but confirmed that our league is a 2-bit, 2 team operation, with 10 other clubs clawing at our hems desperate for spilling crumbs.

I can't see any hope for our game up here. But then, I think I've got the Tuesday blues.

Never mind Rangers situation, it looks like we're stuck with teams meeting 4 times per season, a scenario which is driving supporters away througha combination of boredom and ridiculous pricing. We'll soon have tv coverage of stadia where those on the pitch outnumber those in the stands. In fact, just like Rugby Park now....
