Which is better?
I haven't played BF3, but really enjoyed the first two..
I've played the COD series religiously but have been quite disappointed by the latest installment. I expected more and so I'm thinking of going over to BF3 soon.
Whats everyone's thoughts on the two games and which do you prefer?

Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3...

I'm just going to be biased and say MW3, because I've never played a BF game before.

Come on. Where's the opinions

I have BF3 and it is good in my opinion, the last installment of CoD I played was Black OPS and I think both are good for their various reasons. Still yet to complete the campaign mode but the reviews said that if you're in it for online gameplay-BF3, if you want campaign-MW3

battlefield tends to be more tactical, mw3 more run&gun.
that said, if you play mw3 tactically, moving from cover to cover etc, then the fact everyone else is running and gunning does mean you have lots of cannon fodder to shoot
I was a huge fan of bf2 on pc, but the main appeal was the 64 man battles, which you don't get on consoles.
if you're were on PC, i'd say go for bf3, on a console then mw3.

Unfortunately it is a post of sadness. No death in the family, just in my soul.......WHAT A DRAMA QUEEN!!!!!!
Its also a very long post as it turns out. Apologies. I hope it makes sense
I've played Bf on and off since the original 1942 came out on PC. Good times. Was a welcome distraction from Counter Strike, as by that time, CS was on the wane. Perseverance more than anything kept me enjoying what little i did past V. 1.6.
CS did however provide, for me, the benchmark in what a war shooter should be, at the time certainly. Obviously the games have moved on and CS became dated but it done something that has lasted with me.
It provided some sport
Don't get me wrong, CS, like any good game, was unbelievably frustrating, but overall it was exciting and fun, for a time at least.
The duels were immense...............RATTA TAT TATA RATTA TAT TAT TAT....click...click......click.....click - "oh lalalala"
THEN.....
Out with the pistol....boom boom boom boom "TERRORISTS WIN"
Phew...deep breath, lower the heartrate
Call of Duty, for all of the beast that it has become in the last few years, did start off as a fantastic FPS game and the guns battles were a direct continuation of CS by the time CoD4 (MW1) and WaW came long. Often you'd be in no mans land, an enemy bearing down and you trying to get into cover, but once you were engaged, you had to get yourself out of it.
And so it went like it did in counter strike, empty the rifle and finish each other off with the pistol.
SPORT!!!!
Bad Company 2 was the first i played since 1942 and admittedly, i got round to it late, more through not having XBlive for a long time. I played the demo at a friends A LOT but once i got down, the old feelings of getting into a gun scrap and coming away with nothing more than the remains of yer bowel movements holding yer gear together was still there.
This is where BC2 excelled for me, after the 2 hours i gave MW2, because it gave you a chance. The good guys are always gonna be good, and sometimes i was good as well, but even good guys have an off day, and it gave you a chance. It had a degree of sport about it. The awesomeness of vehicles, destruction, team play and the sheer hilariousness of them all combined notwithstanding, the gunplay kept me at it. Surely this is the bread an butter of it all, cos if it ain't much at shooting, its not much of a shooter is it? Rhetorical. No high horses please (RICH RAYMY, SO RICH)
The flip side of it was MW2 and Black Ops (which i bought cos all the boys were playing it and i decided to so i could play with them. It got 15 hours max before i sold it).
Upon first playing MW2 i found myself scratching my head at how i was able to die so quickly, i mean as soon as you see someone its game over. After an hour i got a feel for it and started to fight back. But i was bored. 2/3 bullets everytime, respawn repeat. I never went back. A wee test i did at the time was i stood about 6 feet from a wall with an assault rifle and went full auto. After unloading a full clip there was nothing but a small uneven circle facing me. The most erratic assault weapons had next to no recoil.
Ah well. Laters
When i later bought black ops, i took it for what it was. Deathmatch. Pure and simple. Like Unreal or Quake. And i enjoyed it a wee bit, i'll admit, but it had no depth. BC2 was far and away the classier and more inventive shooter. Tactics and strategy seemed to make a difference (to my fragile soul) that running around and having a hair trigger couldn't match.
And so we come to the recent. Battlefield 3 is, let me say, a top game. The air vehicles are tougher (harder to do the chopper strafe) there's more unlock (what BC2 was painfully lacking), auto-balance (same), tasty graphics most of the time, big epic battles in both land and air, more guns, suits, rockets, jeeps etc etc etc etc etc etc
TOP GAME!!!!!!
But for one thing.
There's no sport in the gunplay.
Its 2/3 bullets almost every time.
When was the last time you or you saw someone pull out the pistol after emptying a clip and coming away the victor? Once or twice for me, and once or twice i've seen it. Sure, there's guys who are crackshots with a pistol as there have always been throughout these types of games but they run around with it out all the time, often snipers. But when does the combination work in Battlefield 3 with any consistency?
A great game flawed by the CoDification of the one on ones. Its oft been mooted between friends and i that we go back to BC2. I'd rather not, i want to move on and get totally immersed in the new one, but i'm stuck. I only want to play it because of the vehicles. In any map where there few, the gunplay shows it up for what it is: An attempt by DICE (but more likely EA cos they like to stick their nose in to the creative process) to shoot for the dollar. Get the CoDder's on board and watch the cash roll in.
I'm really sick of this 2 bullet lalalala every time i engage the enemy on foot. At least put a bit of sport back into it...please DICE, bring back the game it once was.
Not that i think they read this stuff, but i can only hope that it gets patched.
A freind called me today. He's recently been made unemployed so can't afford all the latest stuff to be released.
He said "I'm really not enjoying BF3 mate, its all over far too quickly, you can't build up a rhythm. I'm thinking i'll sell it to get skyrim so that i'm at least enjoying something"
"I know, fella" I said, "but stick with it, we're surely not the only ones that think this and hopefully the peeps at DICE are just doing it to keep the publisher happy (I mean, that was what spoiled Mirror's Edge wsn't it?) and eventually they'll patch it to be more like the way BC2 was"
And i said it with such conviction. I'm hoping i can convince myself not to toss it.
I just want the sports back. I don't want it turned into instagib, much as i loved it.
Nayhow, enough moaning. My apologies for the long rant and whinge but its been building up and i can only hope that the Dev team have similar thoughts to how its turned out and bring back some of the BC2/CoD4/CS sport and tactic element to it.

to be honest, with cod having had the last few being alltime best sellers, battelfield were always going to lean that way a bit, they'd have been stupid not to.
personally i was always a big fan of bf2 on pc... but always played I/O. the vehicles completely ruined the game. if and when i get bf3 (which won't be for a while as i know what EA are like for updates/patches... damn slow), i entirely anticipate doing the same, as even my mates who liked the vehicles in bf2 and bc2 all hate them in bf3.

I got Battlefield 3 for the bargain price of £22.99 on Black Friday. Have to say its fantastic!

I played the BF3 beta and was so disappointed with the graphics and general looseness of the guns that I cant bring myself to even rent it let alone buy it to see if its better as the finished article.
Having played all the CODS since Modern warfare on Xbox (previously the first ever COD on PC) I decided to stick with what I know.
Having said that, MW3 has yet to really excite me. I love it as a COD game as always but maybe its just like trying to reinvent the wheel nowadays with FPS games. It's just so damn difficult!
