alvarez!

from all the rumours looks like we've lost out on this guy to roma. i don't know about you but i'd much rather take a gamble on a player like this than foucus our attention on an average gerviniho!

Isnt that what was said about Chamakh?
------------------------------------
you mean the guy who assisted or scored 15 goals in his first season in the premier league, despite only starting around 20 games?

probably.

Yeah and it proved true. Chamakh is a great option to have. Started the season in top form and adapted very quickly.

It's a myth and stange myth at that about Chamakh being a bad aquisition!

Basically as soon as RVP came back into the team, he lost hisplace, unfortunately for him Van Persie is a world class striker and his goal record is as good as it gets. Hence Chamakh getting limited oppotunites, you can't score goals if you're not in the team.

So whats the need for Gervinho then? If Chamakh has satisfied you this season?

Gervinho is predominantly a winger. Good on either flank, but can play through the middle if needed. Chamakh's best position is as a centre forward.

gervinho is a winger who can play up front at a push, not a striker.

Fair enough. I just think Wenger is making the same mistake all over again. Looking for little bargain buys instead of one steller striker. Why not go for Eto'o or someone of that ilk. You may say his wages are too much but to win the league, you need to spend on transfers & wages. No club has won the league by being cheap.

Bargain buy?! The guy will probably end up being our club record signing. I think the guy is a good player and I won't write him off but I don't think he is the type of player we need. We have Nasri, Arshavin, Rosicky, Theo even Bendtner who can play in his position, I don't see the need to sign him especially when he isn't a natural winger.

Now if he is coming in for a replacement for Bendtner or Rosicky then I'm all for it but Nasri and Arshavin are proven in the PL and I'd hate to lose them for a guy who has never played in England and has only recently started to show that he is the real deal!

Not writing him off but lets be honest, You dont want a team full of Chamaks, Gervinhos and Squillaci's. You need top names who will push you on to win the title. He may perform well for you but wil it be enough to get you title?

You're like one Vidic, one Yaya Toure and one Tevez away from winning the league. No?

they all had to get their first big break somewhere, they were all unknown quantities at one point.
