From BBC SPORT: "Barcelona president Sandro Rosell believes that the value of Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has gone down since last summer.
The Catalan club failed to sign the 24-year-old Spain midfielder last year."
"If last summer we offered 40m euros (£35.1m) for Cesc, since then there has been wear and tear, now he's worth less," said Rosell.
"I don't know what will happen, but in the case that we were interested, we won't go mad and pay over the top."
OK, so in that case Rosell, why don't you start negotiating for Cesc and we'll counter that with an offer for Messi - after all, he's a year older and has suffered wear and tear after scoring all those goals last season...
Rosell is a muppet of the highest order! When will UEFA actually act on this constant tapping up? It's getting beyond a joke now. Fabregas is contracted until 2015, Barcelona should learn to respect that and stop blabbing to media sources.
Barcelona and Sandro Rosell at it again!

Absolute guff! He's 24, not 34!!! Basically he's had a stop/start season due to injuries, end of story!
But his importance to the club, his undeniable ability and the fact that (barring serious injury) he's not near his peak and likely to improve means Rossell can go swivel!
If they want the guy, then you pay the going rate! Not what suits you! Arsenal DO NOT have to sell and they certainly don't NEED to sell. This is something that seems to bypass the good people at Barcelona.
I don't care if he's got Barce "DNA" or a map of Catalonia tattooed over his body. Cesc Fabregas is an Arsenal player, on a long-running lucrative contract!
If he goes (and that's an IF), then the club cannot, out of principal alone, allow Barcelona to dictate the fee and the in's and out's of the transfer. Arsenal hold all the cards here and I hope they play it that way!

Personally I am delighted that Barcelona's President has made this statement, because it is now almost certain that Fabregas will remain at Emirates.
What he is actually saying is that Barcelona does not need Fabregas and/or they cannot afford to buy him.
Comments about his fitness are just a smokescreen and an excuse.
Barcelona has shown no real desire to buy him in this
transfer window unless it is at bargain basement price.
Arsenal do not need to sell and in a sense this statement has done us a favour and more importantly sent a signal to Fabregas that he is unlikely to go to
Barcelona next season. He can concentrate now on his career with us.

"What is the limit for signing [Fabregas]? We'll need to see. First we need to know what his salary is and what are his conditions."
(quote from Mr Rosell)
It seems that he's telling Whinger to let him have details for:-
(a) the current salary that Fabregas is earning; and
(b) what conditions AFC are laying down for the sale
Things seems to be pretty advanced. I should expect that you'll be receiving a bid for £26 million very shortly. And you've got to sell, because if you don't next season Mr Rosell will only be offering £20 million, and after that about £12 million, until Fab walks away on a Bosman.

You are daft. I think that you should be more worried about Modric, because you cannot offer him Champions League Football and your owner is more likely to take money and run if offer comes in from a big club.

Spurs Number
You are correct
The deal has already been done. Rossel is just layong down a smokescreen.
Fabregas will leave at the end opf his contract on a free. he will have had 4 more seasons at Arsenal, his peak years then will receive a huge signing on fee and be the main man in the Barca midfield.
So we won't make any money out of the deal, it ain't as if we spent much on hom in the first place.
Better luck keeping hold of Modric
It looks like it won't be long before he's off to pastures new.
