Black Managers

While watching Nick Clegg on Sky news talking about racism, he hit on that the Premier League doesn't have a black manager and there are only 2 black managers within the top 4 leagues, despite that 25% of professional footballers are black.

He was saying that this needs addressing, now I'm not a racist but I for one believe that a club shouldn't employ a manager to be politically correct.

My view is if he is good enough then it shouldn't matter what colour he is.

What are peoples views on why black managers dont seem to break through.

I think we need to know their definition of Non-White!

Paul ince had a 60% win rate with MK Dons before joining Blackburn.

Hughton had 55% with Newcastle. You dont have to be white to manage in the EPL you just have a decent managerial record in other leagues.

Mixed Race, Indian, Pakistani, Bengali, Other Asain, Black Carribean, Black African, Chinese, Other.

Your point about the discrepancy between the amount of 'Black' players and managers per percentage of population is still correct, and a good one imo. But I thought using 3% as a factor was a bit low.

Whiteside,

I was wondering whether those of Chinese, Hispanic, and other similar origins get included. We have Gus Poyet managing in the leagues but they seem to concentrate on Black rather than non-white British or non-white European.

With some of the scu m in our crowds and on the boards, why would a black person want to stand on the touchline taking abuse week in week out. There is without doubt racism within the game but particularly within the crowd. Black players usually block it out by just playing but who'd want to stand on the sidelines getting racially abused? What we need is action from bottom upwards. Seek out and ban the racist thugs from grounds and it will work it's way up. It won't work the other way around.

These boards/forums I meant, not the boardroom members at clubs!

some great points guys, I agree with aquantumofsolskjaer that Clegg is being naive in his remarks, and I also believe great footballers whatever their colour or background dont necessarily make great a manager.
So if Cleggs says 25% of footballers are black so out of the other 75% we have in our leagues how many of them will go into management.

Regarding the abuse I totally agree it should be stopped and towards all players no one deserves the abuse you se them get when they take corners and throw ins.

Then you get the morons who believe that paying £40 to watch a wealthy footballer gives them the right to abuse them as much as they wish!

Heaven help us!!!

As a mixed race man myself, i'd hate to think United would be run by a black / Asian manager based colour. FFS if you are not good enough then, you're not good enough - end of!

Take Ince for instance - Having started his managerial career in 2006 at Macclesfield Town, who he kept in the Football League against the odds ( a job well done ), he enhanced his reputation with MK Dons, where he won the League Two title in his first season in charge to attract the attention of a growing list of Championship and top-flight clubs.

A chance to manage in the Premier League arrived when he was appointed as Mark Hughes's successor at Ewood Park in June 2008 but six months later Ince was sacked after Blackburn slipped to second from bottom in the table. He had no more of a career rise and fall than any white manager. He was given the chance at top level football and was found wanting....but he had the chance, so did Chris Hughton ( who's doing a great jod at Brum) and Jean Tigana!

Top managers no matter what race, - i'd like to think - should get the top jobs!!
