Not that I am complaining but does anyone else think that a red cards suspension is a little pointless if it counts for the League Cup.
Balotelli sent off at the weekend was suspended for last nights match in a match that he most likely would not have featured in anyway, making him eligible for the weekend fixture in the league. Same goes for Gareth Barry, surely this really has worked in our favour, same goes Terry of Chelsea and Evans for United earlier in the season.
This has worked in our favour this time, but it has played against Norwich's favour for this weekend. Surely its only fair that if you get sent off in a match then you should serve your suspension in what ever competition it was in which you got sent off???
On another note I thought Dzeko put in a good performance last night, think he needed that to stake his claim to be starting striker again following Mario's red card.
Suspensions

It's better than it used to be when you could use a reserve game to serve the suspension

I think suspensions are often applied to the wrong players. The governing body doesn't like to go against a refs decision after the match but when they've got it wrong or the crime isn't too bad, like Balotelli's red card, the suspension should be removed altogether.
For players that cheat or make dirty challenges which are caught on camera and missed during the match by the ref, suspensions should apply.

In agree, serve the suspension in the same competiton.
I don't like how a player can miss cup finals for an incident in a league game either.
However, if a player picks up a 3 game ban in a knockout cup competition it could take 3 years to serve!!

This came up the other day, an Arsenal fan suggested that if your suspended in the League, then you should serve it in the League.
I know like yourselves we have also had the benefit out of it. but what do you think to his idea.

To be fair that is a good point. I suppose it works both ways cuz suppose if a player misses a semi final match or a final then they really are serving a punishment, just in the earlier rounds of the league cup it seems a little pointless when the player suspended wouldnt feature in the match they are suspended for anyway. Maybe they could have it so if you get a red card in the league you serve it in the league, if you get a red card in the cup then you serve it in the cup or should you get knocked out the cup while your suspension is still unfulfilled then you serve out the rest of the suspension in the following league matches.

Whilst not being perfect, nothing is, this is as fair as it can be.

Totally agree. Surely there must be some downside to this that us mere mortals haven't chanced upon yet?

I think it should go one further and the team against whom the offence was committed could goose which game is missed.
Eg if say carttermole got sent off v man city, but the next game he plays is v Man U, man u obviously get the benefit of sunderland having a depleted squad.
If man city could choose to have the suspension active for the return fixture v Sunderland.

Redinthehead - it's a great idea with one fatal flaw; clubs would surely collude to use all their suspensions for a club at a key game
eg In a scenario where united are challenging City in a title race, but a loss for united would also benefit liverpool, arsenal and spurs looking for champions league football - all clubs using 4 or more suspensions against united when they played City would sabotage the game.
Furthermore this would make suspensions 'rights' an object of value that clubs would trade, either for money or as part of transfer deals. Even if you legislated against misuse, it would still go on x
