Is there any chance he could get a work permit in January or can they only be granted at the start of the season?

I believe you can only apply once a year.
So, if I am right, we should be able to apply.
However it would be a massive risk, if it were to fail we would have to wait another year.
I think his loan to Lorient is season long anyway, so difficult to bring him back.

Actually I think it is only one application every 12 months, so no we would have to wait for the summer.
Same rules apply in all walks of life, not just football.

I've had no problems filing for different UK work permits in the same year.

Hi D'Jeezus, sorry for the delay in replying. Just been moving abroad (again). I'm American originally, but lived in the UK from 1998 till last Thursday. A year or two ago I applied for three different work permits in one year. One was short term just to allow me into the country when my old permit expired. One was for indefinite leave to remain, and when that was not accepted I applied for and received a 5-year permit. No one ever mentioned there being a problem with applying for more than in a year, and this wasn't the first time I've done it. Maybe it's different with special talent visas, I don't know.
