A very promising day yesterday against Sri Lanka. I have said before that we cannot lead too much into a "friendly" however, it did remind me of the Aussies in the 90's in the way that WE are now a strong test team, who appear to have a very strong back up team (think the Jaques, Loves, Lehmann's that Oz had in reserve...)
We all known that 5 batsmen are shoe in's for the test team. Deservedly so and it is refreshing to see. Strauss, Cook, Trott, KP and Bell deserve their spots.
Personally, I would like to see James Taylor get the spot at 6. Is there a better time to give him a go? At 21, he averages close to 50 (albeit in League 2). He excels at every format, is only a little fella, but can hit a few sixes too. He is a great fielder and what a show of intent by the selectors it would be.
Lets remember that he has also been shoved up to Open for this match, he usually plays at 3 or 4 for the Foxes.
Morgan or Bopara will get the nod, but I would rather see Taylor.
Prior has to keep - he gives us a great balance. Swann, Broad and Anderson are guarenteed. This leaves one bowling position. Tremlett looked the real deal in Oz and has also caused the Indians problems in the past. I think he will start.
1 day wise, things need a bit of a shake up. Maybe a bit of youth and excitement (if the selectors believe the players concerned have the mental attitude).
We have 4 years till the next 1 day World Cup, so lets build to that. T20 also needs a few changes. The loyal, but poor performing Collingwood needs to go.

Nothing against Bresnan shanky.
Would just like to see the likes of Woakes, Rashid and Taylor given a taste of international cricket in the ODI teams.
But whether they're the best men for the job is, of course, debatable.

Taylor definitely deserves a go.

Tests:
I'd go Taylor at 6 as Collingwood's replacement. Bowlers not too fussed about, we have plenty of good options.
ODIs:
Personally, I'd have picked Bell as captain and opened with him. But as Cook is captain...
01 Cook
02 Davies or Kieswetter
03 Trott
04 Bell
05 Taylor
06 Morgan
07 Patel, provided he's fit enough
08 Woakes or Shahzad
09 Bresnan
10 Swann
11 Broad
T20:
01 Davies
02 Kieswetter
03 Pietersen
04 Morgan
05 Stokes
06 Buttler
07 Woakes or Shahazad
08 Bresnan
09 Yardy or Patel or Briggs
10 Swann
11 Broad
