A Good Read

Came across this earlier:

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists/david-maddock/David-Maddock-s-Liverpool-column-What-Andy-Carroll-needs-to-do-to-become-a-success-at-Liverpool-article837016.html

It pretty much summarizes most of what I think of Carroll.

He's young, has plenty of potential and needs to be afforded time. I disagree with a couple of the points in the article, I don't think he will ever be as good as Drogba (I can hope though), and he almost certainly won't be one of the best of his generation, but he has the potential to be an excellent player for us.

He's showing signs of improving, I thought his work rate was fantastic against Chelsea, his chest control and aerial ability are brilliant, and he actually does have some pace (There was a moment when Luiz burst forward with the ball, with a couple of yards head start and AC caught up with him).. He's finally starting to get into goal scoring positions (although not often enough for my liking), helping link up our play, and is a good finisher with a rocket of a left foot.

His touch still frustrates the hell out of me, and there are times when he wins the ball, lays it off, and then just jogs forward, while i'm screaming for him to sprint into the opposition box. His decision making needs to improve, as does his fitness, but these come with game time and experience.

Overall, he has the attributes to be a great player for us, we just need to give him time, and hopefully he can work on his game the same way Lucas has.

Good article and yes they need time, that is obvious.

Lucas may well be an example to them but we cannot really judge them on the INSTANT impact we seem to crave, we have to give the boys more time and lets seem if they learn their new responsibilities.

Lucas was never a DM and now look at him, took a long time and a lot of training to do it.

I will never dismiss those who critise them out of frustration though, they don't like seeing them drop out of games or jogging like I don't, but I am always willing to see where it goes.

The team is so far from the last past few years that I have huge hopes for us, no I am not saying next year, this year is not over

I am saying watch out though.

Deluded, how does Carroll fit into a pass and move system when he cant do either??
Lazy player who doesnt work hard enough and if he loves the booze more than the football, he'll be playing championship football again very soon.

I thought he worked his socks off against chelsea on tuesday night.

How do you know his social habits? Do you think the staff at Liverpool would allow what you are suggesting?

He's a young lad with a lot to learn and I believe he will be a great asset to LFC and England in the near future.

You sound like a bitter rival supporter!

No, I see what I see and AC does not fit in our pass and move play.
Believe me pal, our rivals have nothing to be bitter about where Carroll is concerned.
