Team News Time!

Rafa van der Vaart is back in the frame for Saturday's Premier League clash against Bolton.

The striker missed last week's 3-1 win at West Brom after picking up a hamstring problem against Villa on November 21.

Harry Redknapp reports that Sandro is also a doubt with a groin injury.

"Rafa trained yesterday (Thursday) and he looked fine," said Harry before training on Friday morning.

"We're not looking too bad. Sandro has a bit of a problem with his groin, we can't seem to get him a run of games at the moment, he keeps getting niggles. He's the only other player struggling short-term."

Harry admitted it was a selection dilemma between Rafa and Jermain Defoe, who scored the key second goal at The Hawthorns.

He added: "Rafa's available, but Jermain's in good form and scored a great goal at West Brom last week.

"I'm very lucky, they are both outstanding players and it's a tough call between those two. To be honest, neither deserves to be left out."

Niko Kranjcar (thigh), Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and Michael Dawson (Achilles) remain out.

VDV is back

I did wonder about Sandro, i was surprised to see him miss out against PAOK, didnt know he was injured

VDV or Defoe? It's a hard one to call.

VDV - more creativity from deeper positions, takes set pieces as well and will help control the flow of the game better than Defoe.

Defoe - looks like he has a good understanding with Ade and can play off his flick very well as demonstrated last weekend.

Verdict - for me I'd prefer VDV to start, wear down Bolton with a good passing game nick a goal or 2 then send on Defoe after 60-65 mins for whoever is struggling out of Ade, VDV, Modric or Parker.

take your point bahamas, but being at home against an,on paper at least, struggling bolton....

i may be inclined to go for JD,we still shldnt have to much trouble keeping possesion of the ball, and we cld get away with JD standing around, waiting for his chance, and as he somtimes does, offering little else....

but it's gr8 we have these options, and either way we go,they both gr8 options.....

having said that thou,i'm going,so VDV.....

I think we were lacking creativity a bit in the final third of the pitch on Saturday, but then again with Defoe on this year we seem to play better on the counter...For me though its gotta be VDV...just

Defoe has been hugely impressive though this season and so would be relatively happy which ever one plays.

I would always go with VDV, possibly our most talented player along with Modric...if he is fit, he has to start!

As Super says, we were lacking creativity against West Brom (1st half), Defoe can never do the job of VDV as VDV is the lifeline between the midfield and the striker(s)

VDV

VDV every time. Defoe is a great goalscorer but we need someone who bridges the gap between midfield and up front. We're a bit rigid without him. It makes us much more flexible and harder to read. 4-4-2 one minute 4-5-1 the next.

when all is said and done, VDV brings far more to the team, scoring goals, free kicks, skill and hold up play....whereas JD as good as he is, has less to offer...start with VDV and see what gives...
