"Awful referee decision!!"

To be fair the ref did let Carroll impersonate a footballer for over 60 minutes

ffs lads, a still photo will always look worse than the actual challenge itself.

Look at it this way. If he had got a yellow for it would anyone have been bothered today. It would have bypassed everyone and no one would have batted an eye lid.

Also looking at the reaction of the Fulham players tells you a lot. Not one Fulham player reacted to the foul. They didn't think it was a red.

It was a harsh red. Spearing got the ball, and it was a coming together more than a malicious two footed challenge. Slightly reckless but not a red. Have a look at where his foot is, its about the height of the middle of the ball. Whcih is where he connected cleanly with the ball and momentum took him through on the incoming player.

This is a reckless, malicious two footed lunge.

How does that work. I remember Karl Henry and Wilshere making similar tackles, picking up only yellows, and getting rightly slated the next day by the media, the fans and pindits.

good point, wilshere even apologized after the game if i remember rightly, that was an awful challenge as well.
it's funny how liverpool fans just cannot bring themselves to admit that was sickening from spearing last night and deserved a red, it's shameful really

The follow through got him sent off. Unfortunately, it is not the 70's when it would not even be a foul.

Talk about an overreaction. Do you read the Daily Mail by any chance precious?

It wasn't a malicious tackle, nor was it particularly reckless. It was a clean tackle, he got the middle of the ball and followed through. He was even challenging the player, he was going for the ball only. There was no intent.
