This might be a blessing for you guys. I don't think you were ever gonna win it this year and you can now concentrate on the PL (cliche). The signings you made were not the type to 'challenge' Barca. This has proved that and perhaps it will make you act. Where as if you had gone through and then made the quarters or semi's it would have disguised a lot of issues. Plus Ferguson always responds well when you get a jolt like this.
It's okay saying spend in January, but you have a huge squad and you are only allowed 25 players. So it'll be more about getting rid of players that aren't up to standard (Gibson?) and maybe getting in one or two who are.
It's not nice going out of the CL but it it might be for the greater good (cornish accent). Long term it could prove very beneficial....

I just realised Basel have nearly finished there league campaign and they play very few games. Benfica league is also very small amount of games.
Maybe they could be fresh all the time.

bixentelizarazu - he started like a train first few games, got injured, came back, drifts in and out of games. He's new to the club and the expectations placed on him, and no-one expected the new Ronaldo tbf.
Maybe expected more of a goal threat from him than we've seen as well, but I think will be a very good player for us.

Haj - Fresh or not, they are a far inferior Swiss team. I think it was more to do with individual errors/lack of concentration and perhaps team selection.

Young started off well for us, got an injury (playing for England, I think) and hasn't done much since then.
Same with Rooney.

I've watched a bit of Young this season and what is clear is that the Villa fans I spoke to before you signed Young and we signed Downing was spot on.
Things going well - Young smashes it.
Things going badly - goes missing.
To be fair to Man Utd I don't think you've had or will have a huge amount of money to spend because you've done really well at reducing your debt. I certainly don't think you'll be making any big signing in January. Going out of the CL won't help this at all.
The flip side is that there is some value in teh squad that you can and have sold such as Brown, O'Shea and Gibson.
The signings of Carrick and Anderson look absolute stinkers though.
ManUtd have some dead wood and are in transition for me but how long will MrAF be around to sort it?

January, probably not. But SAF will make some more signings in the summer.

Interesting comments from the Villa fans (although Yorke was held in that sort of regard wasn't he?).
To be honest we've had it very good for a long time now, might be no bad thing for a bit of a reality check.
