Club vs Country

Probably been done before, probably been done before today to be honest but I haven't bothered to search through everyone's boards.

Simply put, after last night's events, where does everyone stand on the debate around supporting other English teams in Europe? Should you want your league rivals to do well or does seeing them getting beat by whoever put a big smile on your face?

Me personally, I don't buy into that 'support teams representing your country' business for a second. I don't mind Man City and actually wanted them to go through but spent last night spreading all the Channel 5 jokes about United and generally want English teams to fail!

Sad really that international football means literally nothing to me

i agree, it is sad, although i still watch the euros and world cup.. although i am finding myself watching fewer and fewer games these days as generally, they are really really boring!!!

Chronic - Most of the time i dont even know when an England game is on

The ONLY good i see in the World Cup and Euros is that there is football on during the long summer break

Not really fussed about how England get on, you could cut the number of international games without much bother - why have England/Spain/Germany/Italy etc play EURO qualfiers when there will be 24 teams competing in future EURO finals for instance.. .

I do enjoy the finals every couple of years as its funny when all the non-football folk come out of the woodwork to put their two penneth in but the rest of it is becoming an irrelevance.

Spurs first. Always.

You want your home teams to do well (on merit) in general.
You want them to fail just for the stick you can give some of their fans.

If this year for example meant only three PL clubs get into the CL next season, we wouldn't be laughing then.

To be honest I think four teams is too many anyway.

When all is said and done with a gun to my head i would opt for England winning the world cup. Why? It would be a shot in the arm for a country on it's knees at the moment. It is history in front of your own eyes. being a part of something like that might generate a decent atmosphere in this apathetic country. more inclusive than club football.

even now Euro 96 and Italia 90 still stick in my footballing memories as great tourny's.

don't get me wrong i would love the mighty gooners to win the CL i really would and it is a rizla between the two choices.

England win the world cup.

Have that Fifa.
