The player, most people agree, took a dive. Not the first, certainly won't be the last.

He has been retrospectively punished. Hopefully anyone who tries to win a penalty unfairly will receive the same punishment in future.

For what it's worth, I think Gordon Smith's well-quoted opinions on the subject kind of forced everyone's hand.

If it was a Celtic player, I'd be p!ssed off that our player was being banned for a yellow card offence.

But I would accept that a precedent had now been set. Any player who gains an unfair advantage on the pitch is now subject to the same punishment.
