O'Neil

You've got to love the photo of O'Neil celebrating Sunderland's winner this afternoon, which heads up the BBC report on line. Welcome back MO!

MON will make Sunderland a top 8 team..

So they won, did they? A goal down when I hurriedly left it.

Presumably there was a resounding echo of 'Kean Out' among the die-hards for the umpteenth week running.

I'm pretty sure that MON used to wear the number 31 when he was with us, so I'd suggest that that Celtic story is a load of Rafael. Most people seem to think it's some sort of tribute to Brian Clough, which is probably as good a guess as any. Nice to see Martin back in management anyway - Sunderland have just become my favourite PL team!

Yes, it seems that fans are always convinced that he started the 31 thing on or soon after arrival at their club, when in reality he was already doing it. At Leicester the same story did the rounds as at Wycombe – though with Filbert Street the location of the legendary office door.

I remember a story about England and Worcs batsman Tom Graveney from the 60s, which came from his wife I think. He was 90-something not out in a test match (I think against the Windies) at close of play on Saturday evening, but was so superstitious, that on the Monday morning (no Sunday play in those days), he wore exactly the same sweaty underpants, socks – everything in fact that he'd worn on the Saturday, having not allowed them to be washed, for fear of washing out the 'luck'.

As for MON, while watching his touchline reaction to Sunderland's goals, I was thinking how incredibly fit he looked and remembering that he's the same age as me! I'm off out for a bike ride now...
