It seems to me that Chelsea are now joining the group of has been's in Arsenal and Liverpool. The future seems to be City, Spurs, and of course, as always, United.
Chelsea has had it's time, now it's greatest group of players are past it, too old, and over the hill, even though their egos continue to shine (Lampard crying to the media).
Two mini groups separate the top 6 it seems in the PL, the upper tier, and lower tier (CFC, LFC and AFC).
Chelsea would do very well to stay above Arsenal and Liverpool this year as I think their team is now only on par with these two teams, the other has been's as it were.
This does all point toward one thing, trophy droughts, struggling to stay in Europe, internal fighting, managers continuing to get sacked, and an endless conveyor-belt of average players coming and going, much like Arsenal and Liverpool. A lack of stability with the first team really.
This is not helped by Chelsea's youth system, which in the past 10 years, has produced how many top class players that have established them selves into the first team? 1? This will also suffocate any future success for Chelsea.
From now on Chelsea will be making average signings time after time, again, much like Liverpool and Arsenal, because Chelsea soon too will not be able to promise the best players in the world success.
When all these negatives come together it creates the downward spiral into mediocrity, as we have seen with LFC and AFC, and it starts with finishing 4th.
The final table this year will look like this:
United
City
Spurs
(all teams pushing forward rather than backward)
Chelsea or Arsenal (both clubs now diminishing forces)
Liverpool
The table doesn't lie Chelsea, and the proof is there to see with Arsenal and Liverpool.
So carry on saying United is in decline all you want, but you should take a look at your own diminishing team first.
Chelsea the diminishing force?

As for 'enjoy competing for 4th place', well you know what, we will.
The difference between Liverpool fans, and a lot of united fans, you included, is that we enjoy any kind of success, for what it is, whether it is winning the league cup, or winning the champions league, and glory in the triumpth of our team.
Many united fans on the other hand, dont know how to enjoy success, as the first thing that enters their embittered heads, even when they win something, is Liverpool Football Club, and it supporters.

As 'they' are always raging about you stealing their tag, then Im sure you wouldn't have any problem in giving links to this multitude of articles.
But the reality is, you cant, because they, or should I say we, haven't.
