Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen has apologised after describing black players as "coloured" during Wednesday's programme.
He was discussing racism rows involving Luis Suarez and John Terry and his comments led to criticism on Twitter.
"I unreservedly apologise for any offence caused. This was never my intention and I deeply regret the use of the word," said the 56-year-old.
The ex-Liverpool defender is nearing 20 years as a panellist on the programme.

when will this PC nonsense stop, he obviously didn't mean it in a derogotory way and it wasn't that long ago when 'black' was grossly offensive too.
Alan Hansen next in line...

Who gives a sh it.
I'll give you another example on how mad this stupid world has gone -
If you're from Sweden, you can be called a Swede.
If you're from Denmark, you can be called a Dane.
If you're from Australia, you can be called an Aussie.
If you're from Great Britain, you can be called a Brit.
Then why is it,
If you're from Pakistan, you can't be called a P@k!. ? ? ? ? ?
*****
its Pakistani
Not P@ki.
And Im sure you lump Indians, Bengalis and others nationalities from the same geographic area who look similar into your P@Ki pool, too.

to put it into context, what suarez is alleged to have said in his native uraguay would not be deemed offensive due to racism not being a problem and being 'black' is not considered inferior in any way so there are no negative conotations attached at all.
i think this says more about our society than his in the way we are led to believe that certain groups are different are somehow inferior to the point they need special protection.
and for the ban. roy keane deliberately went out to seriously hurt an opposition player. his initial ban was 3 games and increased by a further 5 games after he admitted it was intentional.
8 games for a word some might find offensive against 8 games for what would carry a jail sentence if it had happened outside a football pitch.
