Shamir Goodwin

With Rory Donnelly appearing to slip off Liverpool's radar with Swansea and Everton stealing the march for his signature, here comes Liverpool's new youth target.

At 17 he's scored 14 goal in 15 games for Brighton's youth side so he sounds impressive.

With the addition of Ojo and Ibe already it certainly shows a youth transfer policy at the club.

Do people agree with this policy and anyone have any views on the player?

Personally I enjoy seeing youngsters join the club but we need some big names to not only fit into the first team but to raise morale in general and raise our reputation to entice bigger players to join in the future.

But I'm happier with cheap youth signings than the Chelsea-esque style of spending large on inform players (e.g. Shaqiri who is great but could be overinflated).

You need a blend of youth and experience. Just looks at Arsenal and why they fail, not enough experience.

We don't want to turn into Arsenal, and need to ensure that we also bring one or two big players in as well!

I like this idea of looking at the best young British talents on the market. The problem however is for every 5 you buy you are lucky (imo) that 1 will ever really 'make it.'

As it currently stands I'd also like us to take a punt on this Donnelly fella if possible.

On the bigger scale of things though I really hope we get the cheque book out in January and sign a quality player or 2 for the starting 11. Maybe with Spearing back from suspension and Gerrard back training Kenny thinks we are OK in midfield but I would say that a 'proven' goalscorer is a must if we want to have any chance of that 4th spot

Kelly, why do you think Donnelly has slipped under the net? LFC are back to the old days. Wait till he is paraded in a Red shirt at Anfield if we are going to sign him. JimmyTheRed

I've only seen news of Swansea and Everton making progression on the deal. I know we like to keep our negotiation under wraps but it seems to similar to how we dealt with Wickham to me.

If one really makes it, then the policy has worked and the others can be sold on. In recent years it has been the young talents who have been bought early who have 'made it'. Walcott, Lennon, Ramsey, Fabregas, Bale. So the only way to compete with the others is to get these types of players before others do.

Of course there is always a risk in it but as you have seen if one player can make it, when paying a couple of million for a few talents, you aren't losing anything if four from five don't make it as the one that does will be worth more than what you lose.
