Why do we watch/care about sport? I think it's a mixture of having an emotional investment in the history and fate of a team/individual AND/OR watching something that you know is of the very highest standard.
Women's football has neither of those. For better or worse, TV caters to ratings and the print media go for what sells. If there was a thirst for high profile women's football someone would be offering it, knowing it would sell/get ratings.
The whole thing smacks of Athletics demanding a huge stadium that it can neither afford to build nor regularly fill.
