Coyle Bolton News

OWEN Coyle reckons some of his under-performing players wasted their last chance in yesterday’s defeat to Newcastle United.

For the eighth time this season, Wanderers found themselves turned over on home turf as defensive errors played a huge part in goals for Hatem Ben Arfa and Demba Ba.

And it was with stung pride that the manager condemned the performance of certain members of his squad against the Magpies, who had themselves gone six games without a win.

“It leaves a bad taste but it’s got to the point where the same people are not going to make the same mistakes," he said.

“If I have got one or two coming back from injury and young kids ready to play then so be it.

“I have tried to play a few of them through it, I have tried to leave them out and then bring them back in. If they are not responding to it then the bottom line is I need players who are going to go in with the character and the resilience and the belief not to be making mistakes."

Coyle is insistent that Wanderers can climb out of trouble, and given a healthy defeat for Wolves at Arsenal today, they will have a chance to do just that on New Year’s Eve, when Mick McCarthy’s side visit the Reebok.

Even though Gretar Steinsson (sickness) and Marcos Alonso (foot injury) were missing from the side that beat Blackburn, Coyle expected more from those who walked on to the pitch yesterday.

“We still have players who should be performing better than they are," he said. “I am not talking about young kids but course and distance guys who have done it.

“When we came in we inherited a squad of very experienced players, those players were on long-term contracts and are now two years older than when we came in at the bottom of the table.

“I have managed to get a song and a tune out of them up to this point. Maybe now there are one or two not up to delivering that and, if that’s the case, they are not going to play in our team, that’s for sure."

It's appears some players have had their go.. Robinson and Boyata. I expect us to sign a new left back in Jan, and two new centre backs. One to replace Cahill and one to replace Knight.

I personally feel the leaky defence and poor players within it has been are downfall this season, you cannot question how poor our defence is, so we will get 3 more in.. And possibly see 2 leave ..

This is a new stance from Coyle..

The team where holding firm til the substitution.. Robinson, Boyata, Knight and Cahill where keeping a clean sheet with the wonderful protection of Muamba and NRC..

To go forth and win the game he had 4 other players to mix about and change the focus of attack...

Worse case a point... Get something from Wolves and it's 3 unbeaten and something to build on...

But no..........

And the rest is history... So now to come out and blame the players is frankly passing the buck..

Owen, I saluted you on Tuesday with a brave line up against Blackburn which paid off.. At least have the self respect to accept the criticism, when the gamble fails..

Boom! Couldn't have put it better myself. Have a brownie point for that sir.

Im still of the opinion that asking our defence to not concede for 30+ mins is asking a lot. Also I did not see us creating much down the other end as Klasnic and N'Gog looked isolated at times and at others outnumbered.

Now I will admit I could only watch the first half in full and only got glimpses of the second but unless we had some outlet beyond a long punt and could really worry Newcastle we were always at risk of conceding.

I hope he was facing a mirror when he came out with that one ......

I've been saying for ages - indeed many of us have - that the players have been letting Coyle down.

Reading the match thread from yesterday a number of posters pointed out that the game was fairly even and that individual mistakes and an unwise substitution cost is the two goals.

So now that Coyle has pointed out that certain players are consistently letting him and us down - which is true - people are jumping on him for pointing this out. Which seems unfair.

I think people are united in believing the substitution was the key moment which lead to a change in system and then bad defending..

He can't waffle on about players mistakes without clearly putting his hand up to what everyone at the Reebok saw..

Taking us for fools..

Manager given two years ... club not really any further forward ... in bottom three, confidence evaporating ... substitution gamble backfires in Christmas holiday period match ... final straw.

There would be a certain symmetry to it wouldn't there?

The buck stops at the manager. End of.

In 1940, when we were takin' a pounding from ' the opposition ' and all looked to be lost ...did we blame the troops? Or the Prime Minister, who ran the show?

Goodbye Neville Coyle ...Hello Winston Whoever

I'm getting really bored of his ramblings, so much so that I didn;t read all of it.

He's alienating so many players so cover up his own faults just to save his job.

The vicous circle has started.

Fans aren't that stupid that they don't know what really went wrong.

He's starting to sound like Steve Kean now, "Im brilliant, it's just that my players are crap!".
