I keep reading rumours of Barcelona willing to sell David Villa to Chelsea to fund a bid for Fabregas. I'd be delighted with it, of course, but can this really be true? Do they even need the money? Does Villa no longer fit into their team? I realize they are likely to sign Sanchez, but he's not a central striker like Villa. I thought they could play Sanchez, Villa and Messi as the front 3, and Xavi, Iniesta and Busquests behind them. If they brought in Fabregas too - would that push Villa out of the team? It seems crazy to me. Unless they plan to push Iniesta into the front 3, and play Messi more centrally?
Not that Villa and Torres have played that well together for Spain recently - but if Villa were available, surely he's one of a handful of world class players we should go for. What does everyone think?

Villa doesn't play as a striker for Barca. He plays on the left of a forward three (kind of).
---Villa------------------------------------------------------Pedro
----------------------------------Messi
-----------Iniesta----------------Busquets-------Xavi
If Barca were to sign Sanchez, I think he would eventually work his way into the team and displace Villa. Pedro would move to the left and Sanchez would move to the right. Pedro is extremely underrated, he won't be dropped.
If they sign Fabregas, he will warm their bench. That's why I think he'll stay at Arsenal until Xavi gets closer to the end of his career.

OP forgot about Pedro and Jeffren

Villa would be better than Torres IMO, think you need to look at signing this class of player as both Anelka & Drogba are getting on

It's just amazing to me that Barcelona have so many great players they can afford to let Villa leave. They are a class above everyone else right now - that's for sure. But I would still think Villa would be worth buying for Chelsea even if he's 28 or 29. There are very few world class players who are ever on the market - and we have to take advantage when the chance arises.

Because Villa is so young, given he's turning 30 this year?

Exactly BK, Villa is never worth that money at his age.
if we were talking 10-15m he would be worth it for a couple os years. but in reality we should have many younger and better targets in mind

NO to Villa. I'm sorry I'd rather not see us spend 40M on someone who's 30 and hasn't even had a great season. There are far better buys out there.

I´d rather buy Aguerro any day.
40 million for a 30 year old Villa ? No ta.
