HUDDERSFIELD TOWN v CARLISLE UTD
THE GALPHARM
30/12/11
7:45PM
The Terriers are playing at home for the second time in 5 days as we take on Carlisle Utd on Friday evening.
We come into this game following a 1-0 win over Chesterfield on Boxing Day. Carlisle drew 3-3 away to Preston NE.
This is now the 6th consecutive season that we've been in the same League.
Of our 10 League meetings in that time we have won 4, lost 3 and drawn 3.
We have not lost to them in the League since Boxing Day '08 at Brunton Park.
We did lose 4-3 on aggregate to them in the JPT last season.
However, we beat them 1-0 in the League Cup earlier that season.
Played for both:
JKB's favourite James Berrett is a product of the Town academy and became a senior in 2007. He signed for Carlisle in 2010.
Defender, Kevin Gray, made 230 appearances for Town between 1994 and 2002. Do I need to mention Gordon Watson? He was at Carlisle from 2003-07, making 130 appearances.
Cumbrian-born Darren Edmondson started his career at Carlisle with 214 appearances up to 1997 when he transferred to Town. He stayed with Town until 2000 but this included a loan spell at Plymouth in 1998.
Bradford Park Avenue's player/assistant manager, Chris Billy, comes from Huddersfield and played for Town from the start of his career in 1991 until 1995. He scored the winner at Wembley in 1995. He made 142 appearances for Carlisle from 2003-07.

Team News:
Town are still without Damien Johnson. Peter Clarke is once again available following his one match suspension. Woods is injured. When talking after Monday's match, Lee Clark said that it was estimated that he'd be out 4-6 weeks but he actually expects it to be more like 3.
Carlisle - will be forced into at least one change for this evening's game, with forward Rory Loy unavailable after he underwent surgery for the broken leg he picked up in the 3-3 draw at Preston on Boxing Day.
Liam Noble replaced Loy against the Lilywhites and could come into the starting line-up against the Terriers with Francois Zoko, who originally replaced Noble in the starting line-up on Monday, moving into Loy's left-sided attacker position.
Andy Welsh is continuing his recovery from a calf injury while Craig Curran, Steve Swinglehurst and Stephen O'Halloran (all knee) remain unavailable due to injury.
Quotes:
Lee Clark -
Carlisle are a good side. Greg has them playing good football, but as well as that they are also very hard working. We are under no illusions that it will be a very tough encounter, but if we play like we have done over the past couple of games then we will give ourselves a very good chance of getting something from the game.
They have a never say die attitude. Their game plan as always is to take on the opposition, in their own system. They are not a team that looks to sit back, they have got good footballers in the middle of the park who try and take on the opposition.
I am not sure teams are where they should be - but the table never lies. We feel that we could have had somewhere between four to eight points more than we currently have. Victories that were turned into draws or last minute penalty misses have cost us during the first half of the season; despite that there have been times when we have stolen points.
This season more clubs are putting good runs together, certainly the top five teams. They all have 40 points and above all ready, which shows that everyone is ready to go toe to toe with one another. It is important that we stay focused, hope that the teams around us drop points and make sure that we keep adding to our total. We need to win as many games as possible to try and get a cushion, similar to what Charlton have at the moment.
When you are playing like Jordan is, you learn to live with the speculation that follows. I think at the moment he is thriving under it, he is seeing that experienced managers want him in their teams and it is inspiring him. His all round game this season has been terrific - not just his goal scoring form. He is buzzing around the training ground in his unassuming way, he isn't loud but you can see that he has a spring in his step.

AmChaff's Line-up:
----------------- Bennett -----------------
Hunt --- Kay(C) --- Bruce --- Naysmith*
Arfield --- Gobern --- Miller --- Roberts
----------- Lee ------- Rhodes -----------
* Was Naysmith injured on Monday? If so and with the absence of Woods, who's likely to be at LB? Might Tom Clarke get a start?
AmChaff's Tip:
Sticking with 3-1
Huddersfield Town 1 - 1 Carlisle Utd

Same old same, worst thing is we could be 4 points behind Sheff U after 2moro, which if Rhodes hadn't equalized at Wednesday 2 weeks ago we would have been in exactly the same position. Glad we are away in the next 2 games, then another nailed on draw against Oldham.

gotta be honest, we should have won 3 or 4 one... clear cut gilt edged chances went begging from rhodes and novak...
but(always seems to be a but wit this town team), we didnt ...bennet didnt have a save worth talking about even though carlisle had plenty of the ball in the first half...so one piece of defensive suicide was the actual reason we didnt get 3 points in the final analysis..
we did try other "tomfoolery" and "japes" in the back 4 during the game but got away with it... we kick it anywhere when we have time and try to play sideways when we havent????? I demand lee clark comes out and openly tells us whos stupid f-cking idea that is?? I also need to know why he plays too deep central midfielders in home games, as they are totally bypassed both in an attacking and a defensive sense...Someone on the radio after said we get back in numbers quickly, we do and then stand in the box ball watching whilst an opponent wanders into the box and scores with a tap in(happened again last night)...
I say again, its not defending just going backwards, same as kicking it aimlessly forward is not attacking.. there requires to be some form of organisation involved in either to make it so..(maybe kicking it forward could be classed as a tactic if you genuinely had some pace in the team to get after it- we dont)...
maybe we call the end of season dvd, 2010-2011 part 2 and do what they did with 43 game dvd, avoid all the utter, utter sh-te that went on during "the run"...
bottom line is we were at home and clarke and kay, hunt , naysmith touched the ball a great deal more than the 4 midfielders and (novak added midfielder), rhodes did.. and that cant ever be good news for us..

Bennett's kicking was v poor last night, and really that's how their goal came about.I also think that teams have now realised the threat of jack Hunt getting forward, and get a fast winger to track back more or double up on him.

From what you have both said directly above, (38, & Hydy)
equates to a lack of fitness the way I see it.
The overlapping Hunt tactic (by any team for that matter) is always challenged by any savy team...That is when Pace & fitness come into there own.
No reason to stop doing it, But teammates have to back up for every eventuality. Which requires unselfish, decoy runs that in the main might not be required, but provide options.
From what you are saying. This is clearly NOT happening...
could that be down to a lack of genuine team spirit ?
or poor professional outlook,
maybe a careless too comfortable environment..
perhaps Confusing tactic instruction from the training staff..
Which ?

you can see p clark running the show and thats where all the sh-t stems from..
he points backwards more often than not.. he pulls gobern and miller back on top of him and naysmith and hunt are not allowed to control the line when we do eventually push out a bit.. full backs usually looking across the line determine where the line should be and keep everyone as level as possible.. centre halves find it more difficult.. clarke made a superb last ditch overhead yesterday, for the simple fact he was 5 yards deeper than anyone else and played a static striker onside, who very nearly did him at the back post even with clarkes headstart..
last ditch stuff is what it says on the label, its not a good bloody tactic to start with..
kay shaved his head in an effort to look more "dangerous" and then proceeded to play bad balls when he had time to do better and played slow thougthfull balls when he didnt have time thereby one striker was able to marshall our back 4 and eventually force us into giving the ball away..
town, a word of advice... never ever slow the game down, you are sh-t at it... keeping hold of the ball and keeping passing to find space etc is more than acceptable in the opponents half, its totally sh-te in your own and leads to c-ck ups..stop doing it..
to jordan, dont believe the hype...marcus stewart would have scored a hat trick last night... and probably 5 at wendies given the total lack of defending on the day.. you certainly have a way to go..
