Individual Errors.

With a few fans and Coyle pointing out the frequent amount of individual errors we keep commiting which is costing us goals...i thought i would take the long time of watching each of the 40 goals weve conceded and outlining who was at fault. Aswell as 'individual errors' This includes extremely poor play, i.e Zat Knight not closing down Charlie Adam and giving him loads of room to pick his spot and letting him shoot and score from 20 yards

Man City: 2-3

1st Goal- Jussi

3rd Goal- Knight

Liverpool: 1-3

2ng Goal- Cahill+Knight

3rd Goal- Knight

Man United 0-5

Amazingly, all 5, thats right FIVE of United's goals came from attacks down the Right hand side, Robinson was heavily attacked, exploited and exposed. However, As a whole the defence were all largely at fault for each goal, not closing down, making it very easy for them.

On this occasion, i am awarding each player in the defence one point.

Jussi
Boyata
Cahill
Knight
Robinson

Norwich 1:2

1st Goal Cahill for letting Morrison free. No-one marking Pilkington who was stood 3 yards from goal. Whole team at fault.

2nd Goal: Boyata

Klasnic Sent Off.

Arsenal 0:3

1st Goal- Steinsson

2nd- Robinson + Knight

3rd Goal- Robinson

Wheater Sent off

Chelsea 1:5

Bogdan and Robinson had howlers, Bogdan in particualr had an afternoon to forget being at fault for 3 goals, whilst Studge was no match for Robbo, who made him look foolish frequently throughout the game. Majority of the goals coming from attacking down the right side again.

Sunderland 0:2

1st Goal: Robbo.

2nd Goal: Caught on the Counter.

Swansea 1:3

1st Goal: Pratley

2nd Goal: Pratley

3rd Goal: Caught on Counter

Gardner Sent off

West Brom 1:2

1st Goal: Riley, but also Wheater and Robbo to an extent.

2nd Goal: Poor defending from Mavies and Wheater.

Everton 0:2

1st Goal: Knight

2nd Goal: Cahill and Knight

Wheater Sent Off

Tottenham 0:3

1st Goal: Klasnic + Boyata

2nd Goal: Steinsson + Boyata + Robinson.

3rd Goal: Klasnic + Steinsson

Cahill sent off

Aston Villa 1:2

1st Goal: Boyata

2nd Goal: No-one closed Petrov down, wicked deflection off Cahill.

Fulham 0:2

1st Goal: Boyata

2nd Goal: Boyata initially, then Cahill and Knight.

Blackburn 2:1

1st Goal: Cahill

Newcastle 2:0

1st Goal: Mavies + in general lazy defending.

2nd Goal: Robinson

That concludes our goal fest...

Ending table:

Robinson 9
Knight 7
Boyata 5
Cahill 5
Bogdan 3
Steinsson 3
Jussi 2
Klasnic 2
Mavies 2
Pratley 2
Riley 1
Wheater 1

Now i realise some games i.e Wigan has been ignored, but there was no-one at fault for their screamer.

Some descriptions are vague..but the defending from the team as a whole is such that each player is performing irresponsibly and commits an individual error or just very poor or laxy play which costs a goal.

I do realise these research is subjective and down to my interpretation, but from watching players positioning movement etc on highlights you can easily pick out who was at fault and who committed a glaring error.

Also MT wanted to know stats with and without Holden and Lee.

Since August 2010:
........................ PLD Won Draw Lost GF GA PTS
With Holden: 26 10 8 8 38 34 38 = 1.46 Pts per G

Without Holden:30 6 2 22 38 63 20 = 0.67 Pts per G

With Lee: 31 12 8 11 49 44 44 = 1.42 Pts per G

Without Lee: 25 4 2 19 25 53 14 = 0.56 Pts per G

To say these stats shock me is an understatement. I realised how poor we are as a team without these two as they are so good not only attacking wise but defensively.

With both Holden and Lee in the team, not only do we win more games, but we draw more, lose much less, score more and concede less.

I hope these stats are enjoyable! Well..not enjoyable....

Coyle's a brilliant manager, faultless actually.

It's just that his players are rubbish, don't know what they're doing and aren't listening to him.

Bricks, can you please show me one comment by people are pro Coyle which suggests we think like this.

Coyle is to blame for some of our situation.

I do agree, that they are subjective.

I wrote that at the end of the article.

However, i was merely pointing out that the constant galring errors by defenders are costing us. There were only a few goals that were scored against us where ive sat here and watched each one this morning and felt 'that was a good goal' Very often weve handed goals on a plate to a team.

Maybe it is tactics, maybe its the players.

Personally i feel there are a few players who are constantly letting us down, Robbo, Knight and Boyata. To be fair to Steinsson ive had a go, but other than one or two times when hes been 30 yards out of position, hes been solid and not given much away, however that could be distorted by actual appearances.

I dont think the players we have our good enough in defence, i think Coyle knows that, i think Gartside knows that, i think all of us know that. Of course Coyle has to take blame, but i feel the defenders have to take the brunt of it personally.

Poor training methods can make good players average, and average players poor. There's a knack to gettin' 100% from a group of players, and getting 'em to play well in an organised system. That's why some teams appear to punch above their weight for a great deal of the time ..... like we did for about 4 seasons, under BSA. It won't stop players making individual mistakes (even the superstars of the big teams make errors) but it makes them consistently better.

It strikes me that Coyle is brilliant during a good run, when you're in good spirits he lifts you more but when you're down and out of form he can't kick you up the backside and get you to lift yourself from the fug.

Personified by once we go a goal down we can't get back and often concede again soon after but get on top and score then boom 4-0, 3-1, 5-0, 2-1.

The stat you need is how many times a forward fails to hold up the ball which leads to an immediate attack on our defense. We are under pressure so much of a game that our players will make errors. Put Vidic in our team and see how many mistakes he makes over the course of a few games.

Course I would expect a few mistakes from any player..

But is it acceptable that Robbo has single handedly given a goal away once every two games?

If we had a striker scoring like that he would be a hero.

Thing is ..if Robbo moved to W Ham, and had BSA organising and motivatin' him ..he probably would be a hero!

Its a nice thought, but if anyone considers Robbo/Knight to be any better than poor...

They were slated as bad signings by then fans when they were bought by Megson for £6.5m and theyve very rarely reached a good standard in their performances.

And before anyone says Coyle signed Robbo, he didnt, Megson signed him on an 18 month loan deal in which we HAD to buy him permanently at the end of it...We had to buy him 12 months earlier to allow a loan spot so Coyle could bring in Jack Wilshere.

Limited ability I can accept - It is a pity Robbo's not a younger / better player than he is ..... but at least he shows more guts n' bottle than some of the others pullin' on a white shirt at the moment ... and none of 'em are exactly coverin' themselves in glory, manager included.....
