Listening to the Mjallby interview and he says one of the reasons we signed Lustig is to experiment with a 3-5-2 formation.
Oh how much do I want this (at least for SPL games).
I would pick
......................................Foster
...................Mulgrew......Rogne......Lustig
........................Wanyama.......Kayal
.........Izzy.............................................Mathews
................................ ...Samaras
............................Hooper..............Stokes
What I like about this is the depth of our squad makes this so inter changeable.
Majstorovic Loovens and Wanyama can all fill in in the back 3
Ledley, Mulgrew and Samarass Comens could go wide on the left
Brown,Forrest and Cha could step up wide on the right
Brown, Ki, Ledley could fill in in the centre of midfield
McCourt Ki Brown in the attacking midfield role
And if we sign Diawara we would have extra cover up front as im not sure about Bangura yet.
Anyways hope you all had a great night last night last night and have a great new year.
Hail Hail
3-5-2

Agree interesting idea Toe..
Left sided and right sided aside, hope we concentrate on getting square pegs in square holes at the moment,
but i took it to mean that he wants to change the formation without making subs during a game ie 3-5-2 becomes 5-3-2 when under P a bit, and for that you need players (matthews, lustig, izzy,ki etc) that can switch easily between 1-2 positions and still be competent. But lets walk before we can run

I think the 3 backs is a very interesting and worthwhile alternative. I would like Neil to use a back 3 on some occasions and revert to the more authentic back four maybe for amajority of games. One of the problems playing teams other than Rangers in the SPL is that managers, particularly those with Rangers links, tend to set their team up totally in away to prevent us from playing. We need to surprise them by having alternative formations so they cannot spend the whole week preparing to play a set formation.
3 centre backs can be a ploy in that thinking.

Impartiality - Everyone in Scottish football, top to bottom, has Rangers links. We're all in on it. Just to try and spoil it for Celtic.
Doesn't bear thinkin about how many league titles your team would have strolled to had the playing field been level all these years.

No, not for me.
Our defence is not good enough to play with only three at the back.

Henrik, with all due respect to your league leading side, they've barely been good enough to play 4 at the back for half a season!

don't think we need 2 keepers, I know we need a big Target man but i'd rather we kept Forster in goals lol

The gaffer certainly has a selection headache coming up soon when izzy is back up and running and kayal is back from this recent injury
Joe Ledley for me is still our best central midfielder but wanyama has been great and kayal is also looking good again! The kayal Ledley pairing was great to watch at times!
