We wanted Aguero for years, in fact every club in the world would have taken him. However he went to a club who were in the Champions League, were willing to pay the high price and who would pay the most wages. We had no choice in it.

Having already bought Suarez a splash on Aguero would have been pointless as they're basically the same player.
Carroll offers something different so buying him was the better idea.
