The fantastic Steve Gerrard

"I always look at the 35 marker. If I get there and I’m still involved with Liverpool I’ll be delighted but at the moment I’m feeling as good as ever.

"I’ve had time to get my body right, get my body strong.

good news for us reds fans.

Would have been like Xavi and Iniesta (not quality wise btw) with scholes running the midfield and Gerrard doing the damage ahead of him.

Weak managers trying to play the best 11 players rather than the best team I reckon.

That is a very good theory, but for the life of me, I can not see how Barry fits in. He is nothing more than ordinary.

You lot dodged a big bullet there.

Which is exactly the opposite of what managers like Sir Alf Ramsey, Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby, Bob Paisley, Brian Clough and Bill Shankly do and did.

They would have had no problem sacrificing one of Lampard Gerrard or Scholes for the good of the team

Sir Alf Ramsey once said "The best players do not always make the best team"

I think Barry played due to the injury to Hargreaves - great shame for England him getting that terrible injury.

The problem was which one of Lampard and Gerrard should sit.

Yes I agree a great combination, not sure how many games this pairing actually played together?

I do remember the one England trashed Germany 5-1. Same German side that later finished as world cup runners up the following year.

That really was a time when United and Liverpool players worked in true harmony

Liverpool players scored all 5 goals and United players were involved in most of the build ups.

Macca

I even remeber Owen saying that he loved playing with the United lads at those England get togethers.

Something to do with the relaxed atmosphere, team spirit and no real out and out superstars then, with huge egos.

Which is more than can be said about the current state of affairs.

They were all good pro's in that team.

Owen, Scholes, Heskey, Cambell, Rio, Neville, Cole, Beckham, Barmby, Seaman and Gerrard.

Top pro's.
