Maynard...

...Wolves open the bidding at £1m.

Are we even interested anymore?

Apparently Bristol City have gone back stating they want £2.5m...!

I think they are dreaming, he wouldnt go to a much higher premiership club than wolves without being a benchwarmer. In which case Wolves must realise this lack of competition for his signature and will surely wait until the end of the season.

£2.5m for a championship striker with half a season on his contract is barmy

I'll just find it hilarious when he goes for about £2m, when they could have had about £9m

It's the worst handling of a transfer I've ever heard of.

Maynard is now at a stage in his agreement with BCFC where he is free to negotiate a pre-transfer contract with any other club for the end of the season when his term with Bristol expires.

If he finds a club who wants him in the summer and is willing to sign a pre-contract agreement, I can't really see why he would leave now - I imagine his agent will be desperate for him to stay until the end of the season.

I thought at the time that BCFC must have had some indication from the player that he’d sign another contract if no offer came in from a PL club. That would explain their position of refusing, point blank, to sell to another Championship club.

I’m not really interested in whether Maynard comes to LCFC any more and think it’s much more likely he’ll end up at a low end PL club or someone like West Ham. To be honest though I can’t believe that BCFC have found themselves in the position that they are in now.

They may say that it was worth the gamble, but let’s turn this on its head. An LCFC player, say Schmeichel (but pick anyone in our squad who you think is our best player), is refusing to sign a new contract and would be available for nothing at the end of the season. Would you sell him on transfer deadline day to Bristol City for £6m?

This would be a really big punt but .... Fleetwood Town is my nearest football club and they have an absolute quality striker - Jamie Vardy. Hes scored 15 goals already (fleetwood definately dont have the best midfield btw) but he looks a whole different class, could definately slot into the championship. Offers around 1-2 mill have already been rejected and blackpool fans are begging for them to sign him. Can be played as a winger as hes very quick, could be just who we need.

"If I was a BC fan, I would feel really let down by my club, who have pretty much thrown around 6 mill down the drain for not a right lot in return."

If you were a BC fan *who wanted to sell last summer* fair comment. As best I can remember, though, all of them who came on this board were adamant that they wanted their club to hang on to the player, and that Leicester could go stuff ourselves.

Those fans received plenty of warnings on here (some of them quite friendly, all things considered) that they would "get no more than 2 million or so" if they hung on to him until January, but they just wouldn't have it. They may well be dim enough to feel let down, but the club only did what those fans were screaming at them to do.

Poor way to run a club losing that amount of money in just a few months
