Steven Pienaar to replace Aaron Lennon?

Hi All,

I know not many off you will agree with me but i believe that Pienaar should be starting right mid next season replacing Lennon. Not saying that Lennon is rubbish but I believe that Pienaar is much better on the ball and he can put in better crosses than Lennon but the main reason is that Pienaar works so hard, you will always see him comming back to help out the defence, however the weakest part of his game would have to be his shooting, he should be scoring at least 5-6 goals a season but he has only managed 1 goal this season and that was for everton but for me he is just that little bit better then Lennon.

What do you guys think?

Yes he does normally play left mid but he can also play right mid as he is right footed

Wasn't the pienaar signing evidence that you had overtaken Chelsea? What happened losers?

spurtle,

it's no coincidence he often scores winning goals late on when defences are tiring.

===================================

I can only recall this happening once, against West Ham in the 2009-2010 season.

Chronic,

So he did.

I still wouldn't call something that has happened twice as "often" though, to be fair.

I honestly believe Harry was trying to weaken Everton rather than strengthen Spurs, because why on earth would he try and sign Neville.

Chicken - The winning/equalising goal then

vs Arsenal 4-4 - 94th min (2008-09)
vs Newcastle 1-1 - 91st min (2010-11)
vs Liverpool 2-1 - 92nd min (2010-11)
vs Brimingham City 2-1 - 95th min (2009-10)
vs West Ham 2-1 - 79th min (2009-10)

spurtle,

So firstly you're movin the goalposts & including equalising goals & then you also include goals scored in the 79th minute.

Using these stats, isn't Kranjcar the better option?

I'm also in Lennon's corner but i just dont like it when certain stats are used to back up an opinion that isn't really there.

Even if we do include all these incidents, i'm still not sure these 5 goals give anybody the right to suggest Lennon "often" scores winning goals late on - especially considering his Spurs career spans 6 years.

No need to be picky Chicken . Yes I should have said winning AND equalising goals originally. I was going to I just figured nobody would call me up on it if I didn't lol.

I think it's a fair point I'm making considering he's a winger and barely scores these days. Those last 4 I listed have come in the last 2 seasons where in total he has scored 6....so 4 out of 6 is 'often' in recent terms. Yes probably not so much in his whole 6 year career. And the 79th minute is still late on.

spurtle,

I think one thing we will agree on is this, i just wish lennon would use his attacking ability more "often" because (a) he's so predictable when he opts for the byline all the time & (b) we know he can do it. Oh & there's probably a (c) he could win more penalties (like he did against Bolton).
