"Getting paid big money and playing for Blackburn, or getting paid decent money and playing for say, Arsenal."

Over inflated sense of worth m8. Everyone knows that Everton are in financial poo. And they have been on sale for a while. What were they thinking giving Arteta a contract of £95k a week? I mean seriously.

Thats the king of logic that we (gooners) are all getting grumpy about when Arsene was handing out contracts like sweets to the likes of Traore, Denilson, Eboue, Bendtner, Rosicky, Fabianski, Chamakh who have contributed nothing to the first team.

Cahill is being clever. He knows that he will get £120k a week when he walks away from Bolton for nothing. At the moment Chelsea are also forking out £7m transfer fee. So he is in a way trying to extort Bolton out of their transfer money. Great captain. And Coyle doesn't stop in his adulation for him

I would prefer youngsters from lower leagues or abroad. Jenkinson may not be completely ready for the first team but he has good potential and drive. I think premier league players are lazy and think they have already arrived.

I can see Hoilett asking the same as Theo is demanding (£70-80k a week)! Even though Theo is now an England regular and has much more potential.

How does Theo have more potential?

Isn't this a massive generalisation? I'd much rather our club looked at all the options available to them and assessed each one on it's own individual merits.

Its no wonder they are going out of business. Remember Arteta was supposedly on £95k a week and his wages were adjusted by giving him an extra year just to so that he didn't take a pay cut by leaving Everton and joining us!

There is no way Arteta was on 95K per week at Everton considering there budget.

Yes he took a pay cut to join us as we gave him an extra year on his contract but sometime u need that old head in the squad which he will be in a few years time. Well worth it imo.

He on more like 60-70K per week which makes Theos request even more pathetic.

I agree it is a generalisation and of course its better to look at each case on its merits. But I just get that feeling from transfers in the past. Jeffers, comes to mind. Even Arteta and Benny haven't done anything great.

Its obviously slightly different for proven players like Sol.

I think transfers from abroad or lower divisions come with a sort of mystique that allows the player to get of to a good start and build confidence.

Fair enough, I believe he was on £80k a week at Everton as reported. However the point still stands. How could Everton (in their dire financial position) afford to pay £80k a week?

And I agree Theo demands are too high. But I think thats just negotiation and they will agree to something in the middle.

"Arteta has been our 4th best player so far this season!"

Arteta has been great in Wilshere's position. He wasn't bought for that position. Thats the problem. We are in desperate need for someone to play in Cesc's position!

The problem is there isn't anyone we could get that would be able to do Cesc's role as well as Cesc. When we were on our winning streak this season it was because we had lots of players creating chances from midfield thus sharing the burden that used to be Cesc's. And to be honest our midfield are still doing pretty well in that respect. WHat we need are back up players who can do this as well (we'll have that to some extent when Wilshere returns) and a few more players chipping in with goals.

We've been too reliant on one or two star players for far too long what we need more than anything is a team that works together well.

Its also a lot to do with Ramsey's regression. If you look at statistics Aaron has been very average the whole season. He adds a lot of energy and running about. But unfortunately we have been built around Cesc. And so all our play goes through that player. The passing movements have been designed to create space and time for that position. How many goals or chances has Aaron created? That position requires a minimum of 10 assists and 10 goals for our system to work. The Bergkamp role or Cesc role.

At the beginning of the season the league didn't know where to focus their defence. Most teams were concentrating on blocking Arteta in the deeper role thereby leaving Ramsey with freedom much closer to their own penalty box to link play. Now they have stopped doing that at the Emirates and Ramsey has been found out and has been unable to readjust. And so our goals and chances have completely dried up especially at home.

I don't blame Ramsey because he is still coming back from a horrendous injury and is behind on his development. But I don't think we can continue without someone else in that position.
