To be fair, the website has only reported that 'talks are at an advanced stage'...however it does also say 'hopefully confirmed by the end of the day', which does appear to be further forward than Keef's interview comments
Everything crossed

Drinkwater back at Tykes
Last Updated: Fri, 06 Jan 2012 09:06
On-loan Manchester United midfielder Danny Drinkwater is set to return to action for Barnsley in the FA Cup third-round visit of Swansea.
The 21-year-old has rejoined the Tykes on loan until the end of the season after his original four-month loan came to an end earlier this week.
Drinkwater had missed the last four matches with a thigh injury but is set to come back into contention to face the Premier League side.
The return of Drinkwater has boosted the Barnsley midfield following the news that skipper Jacob Butterfield will be out for the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the New Year's Eve win over Leeds.
Fellow midfielder Jim O'Brien remains on the sidelines with a stomach muscle problem.

A couple of sites are reporting it now, including a few mentioning that Drinkwater has also signed a new long term contract with Man Utd before agreeing to return to us on loan until the end of the season.

Yes - this is good news. We have shed Haynes from the wage bill and Drinkwater coming back is good news. Hope Dagnell does the job for us and Hillcroft get him scoring again. We could do with cover at left back....it's been a problem position for us for a few years now...

I think Haynes could have been good for us. Ah well

Bet Haynes (and Doyle for that matter) was on too much money hence Hill's decision 'for footballing and financial reasons' to make him available for transfer.
