Been there now for around 9 years, but the story from the BBC is that he will go to Wasps.
It's what he's always said he'll do before thinking of a possible job with wales.

Good for the blues?
Good for DY?
Dai Young

no matter how many times I read the club statement - my brain only recognises the following............'We have had no offer of compensation from London Wasps regarding Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby David Young. David Young is unwanted by us but since we heard of the interest fron that London - we would like to remind everyone that he is still in a contract at the Blues and has one year to run on that contract, which we expect him to honour.'

People in Wales are too inward looking. The way I see it the more exports we generate the stronger we'll become (so long as the replacements are Welsh). Dai goes, someone else gets a chance, James Hook, Phillips, Byrne go, other players get a chance. The more the merrier I say.
If the whole thing is to be sustainable then it should work thus; the regions produce quality youngsters who develop and play for Wales, they see us through a World cup and get big money offers abroad. They accept, keeping regional rugby costs down but our talent pool large.

It all looks like speculation to me nothing concrete enough to suggest he is leaving,
but if true it would be good for all parties.

I believe this will have a big affect on the Blues should it happen. He has been at the club a long time and will have had an affect on all levels of the club in that time, wether directly or in-directly. Should he go there will be a period of unstability, for how long we don't know.
There is also the rumour (and i have heard this from people within the club) that whilst negotiating contracts with some new signings he has arranged for a release clause in their contracts should DY leave. This doesn't cost the players anything and has acted to strengthen DY's postion, but potentially means that few players will look to move on should DY go.
We will need a realy experienced coach who is used to working on a small budget and getting the best out of under perfroming/average players.

I like the Blues most of all out of the Welsh teams, I hope they can get a decent manager who will organise things. No disrespect to Dia, who i rate very highly, but with the excaption of Alex Ferguson, managers don't normally stay in one club for so long. Time for a change for both the club and himself.
A Michael Cheika type would be of great benefit. A no Non-sense type, Just look what he did with leinster. brought them from also rans to HC champions and with a minuscule budget. (at the time) now its much better but shows how good Cheika is.
Speaking of which... He is not having the most pleasant time in paris... maybe hes looking for a change of scenery eh........

Ding
The Blues would never afford Chieka, but I can't think of a Welsh region that couldn't make use of his talents.
There are just a few coaches out there who would do a good job for the Blues but I fail to see a Welshman amongst them.
Phil Davies??

Ding, I wasn't nessecarily saying a change would be a bad thing, just airing my worries that the change may be more significant than if a coach had been here for just 2 seasons. In terms of preperation, the sooner this is all sorted and a potential new guys comes in the sooner the club could recoever after the changes.
Mallet has been often touted, but i wonder wether he has the sharp Southern Hem No BS attitude that i agree would seem to be required.
