If this turns out to be true it will be the best bit of business so far. Of course it's bound to be made up though.

Please let this be true

Hear hear...I agree. Luke Varney is a good player, but we probably offered him over the odds in terms of wages, which is ultimately his downfall, particularly when it's clear he played for Crewe and will therefore have crazy appearance-based payment clause(s).
I'll wish him the best wherever he goes (except Forest). Just a shame he did so well for Blackpool, that Cloughie clearly isn't too keen on him and that we'd have to fork out £250,000 or whatever figure it actually is to keep him if he plays again.
By the way, I thought Blackpool had signed an agreement that said he would, to quote Ian Holloway "definitely sign for us, whatever!".

For me, Luke Varney is just an average player...sorry!.

Sorry, Varney is average at best. If this Mirror story is true, then it's excellent news for Derby.

As above have said, very average player and I disagree that he had a good season for Blackpool. He did have a good MONTH and then people started saying “we should never have let him go” etc. He then returned to his usual form and did nothing.
The Holloway thing was him getting too big for his boots and started being cocky. “We can sign him for £250k there is nothing they can do about that. unlucky” I think is what he said and Glick moved quickly to rubbish such claims. If it was true then why did they not sign him in January. Maybe they realised he was not as good as they first thought?
If we get £750k for a player we would have given away free with a packet of cereal to get him off the wage bill last summer, then this is great business.

Skysports are also reporting on this so I'd guess that makes the story more solid. 750 000 for him isn't a bad bit of business.

I'd take the $1 if it meant getting shot of Varney!
