Future Managers?

Gerrard has signed up for an ambassadorial role with the club, but could he be a future manager of LFC? I know Carra has shown an interest and is doing his coaching badges, any other current players you think would make a good LFC boss?

Surprised that more former Liverpool players have not gone into management.

Kenny has done well, and Keegan was ok to a degree, but not many others have really lasted long.

They're all raking it in on the commentry circuit, less stressful!

Other than be the skipper of many, highly motivated, skilful professionals, whose future lie with the club and manager, StevieG, his commitment beyond challenge, has yet to display, or had the opportunity to display managerial skills. My guess? No. JimmyTheRed

In fact I get the impression that defenders seem to make the best managers. They have great knowledge of how to organise the defensive side and that is most of the battle won, in terms of tactical knowledge.

Not sure I agree with that.

Mick McCarthy, for example, big old fashioned centre half, should be able to organise a defence you would think? His teams never have a good defence. Only 2 clean sheets this season, only 5 the whole of last season.

Roberto Mancini, by comparison, flamboyant no 10 in his playing days, always has good defensive organisation in his teams, indeed, not too long ago people were complaining City were boring for all the money spent.

I don't think there is any playing position which makes it more likely to produce a good manager, in fact, you don't have to be much of a player, as many successful managers have proved.

Not sure Carra has the personality to be a top manager, but he could be a very good Steve Clarke-esque right hand man with his attention to detail.

Gerrard? No idea.

It seems I have been proven wrong.

I think the ex players that make better managers are the ones that made up for holes in their physical ability with intelligence.

Mancini is a good example, a flamboyant player but also vastly intelligent in his all round play. Paul Lambert is another example for me, a player that optimised his natural ability with his intelligent play.

Gerrard for all his ability is renowned for being a supreme athlete and technically outstanding but I'd speculate that he is not one of the best interns of plugging any gaps with outstanding game intelligence, hense why he rarely featured as a CM.

The one great thing, if I can call it that, in favour of StevieG becoming a manager, much though it grieves me to say it, is that he has experienced, with the greatest exception of all times - Istanbul - bear in mind people, we are LiverpoolFC, not much else than failure, and has still come good. Other trophies aside - FA Cup, great - the test of a manager is not how they do when things go well, but when things go bad, 'Epic Swindle etc.....' throughout that, Stevie has done well, kept his head high, as has Carra. Good points, Talksrubbish, and petrol on the flame that Didi Hamann could be a good manager.

He always read the game very well despite being slow and awkward, and is clearly an intelligent bloke who loves English football.

I think that both Carra and Gerrard would make poor managers tbh. I can just see Carra going nuts at people ala Souness. Not sure Gerrard has the mettle or charisma like Hansen.

Kelly has a steely determination about him whilst being very calm. I can see him Captaining LFC.
