Staying away

These stats just go to show that people are staying away from Elland Road in their droves...

http://www.thescratchingshed.com/2012/01/elland-road-attendances-continue-to-struggle/

It might be partly down to the current economic climate but I would put the blame equally at the feet of the man at the top. The morons are making a difference!

The most worrying sign for Leeds is that the divisional average has risen quite substantially and is quickly coming into line with 2010/11 attendances. Back in October, sales were down 6.04% on the previous season. At the halfway stage, that’s already changed to just 1.70% which is a substantial increase in no way helped by the situation at Elland Road.

More worrying still, is that Leeds’ average attendance is currently lower than it was in League One. In 2007-8, The Whites averaged 26,546. This dropped to 23,813 in 2009-10, which is only marginally higher than what we’re currently seeing, but higher nonetheless.

I don't think dropping the price to £562 would make a great deal of difference either to be honest...

Obviously it would be just reward to all those loyal season ticket holders who've been exploited over the last 5 years especially BUT.... the problem is Leeds will always have fair weather fans who will only turn up when we're on a winning run at the top end of the table.

In League 1 we were almost always in the top 5, winning most games and many day trippers were happy to pay £30 to watch us play Hartlepool etc... there was a feel good factor.

Even last season we had quality in that midfield with Gradel, Howson, Snods, BJ and Kilkenny, our exciting football showed fans we had potential to get promoted, so attendances remained high...

This season however, every Leeds fan knows this team is only good enough for the playoffs at best and the Summer of no meaningful transfer activity has seriously turned off all these fair weather fans (can't blame them).

They still have plenty of money to come to ER on the weekend, but these fans will continue to stay at home this season and listen to yorkshire radio instead, unless....

1) we finally start investing in some genuine quality on the pitch...

2) stop selling top players like Kasper and Gradel for tiny sums.

3) start offering competitive contracts to our best players like Howson, White etc...

Spot on Larry. I went to 12 games at home last season and been to none this. Anybody can say what they want about me for this but I up the blame with Bates and how he treats us fans.

I love my club and have done for 40 years but will not go back and put money in Bates bank account until some of it ends up on the pitch in the way of decent transfers.

This division is poor and with some proper backing for Grayson we could have gone up easily.

Bates out.

Salonika, Surely tapping into a massive fan base should be a good business practice?
Gates at ER are pathetic and the club are missing a trick.
How many new ST holders will be attracted at over £600?
Marketing and the treatment of customers, yes paying customers is disgusting.
The club face an ever decreasing fan base paying increased ticket prices.

LIW you agree with this then we've also agreed that Grayson has players on very good money as our player budget this year is £12m. Both these statements can't be true. What we have is too many average players on good money that we can't get rid of easily.

The strength of feeling against Bates and all he brings is massive.
