Just before this series started I thought it would be the last for ponting, and maybe he wont be given the chance to play the whole series. The melbourne test was more or less the last chance for both ponting and hussey. Now we are at a stage where even before the series end, one indian player will go. If rumours are to be believed then vvs will retire before the adelaide test, and sachin will most probably hang his boots in the shorter format of the game after the triseries.
Really it is the Black day for indian cricket. I think as an indian fan, I had worries of what will happen after the 3 greats retire, but never ever thought what will happen if all the star studded batsman flop consistantly for 14+ innings.
Now the next big test for indian cricket is england coming at home on october, and I think sachin and dravid will want to retire before that as they wouldnt want another spot on their careers after this 2 whitewashes.
what a funny game cricket is!!!

"If England started to do well in the 50 over format, you will see many fans change their tune".

From my experience, it is the casual fans who don't actually play cricket (i don't mean professionally or anything, just for a local village club or whatever) who are the fans of ODIs and T20s. At my cricket club, we all acknowledge the primacy of the test game, and prefer to watch it. one guy I know said "even though test cricket is the longest form of the game, it is the most exiting because so many things can happen, in 5 days the game can twist and turn in so many ways"
When England won the T20 slog fest thing, one of my mates summed it up, saying he was "pleased" for england, because he always likes to see them do well, but he wasn't exited, or ina ccelebratory mood like he was when England won the ashes last.
To put it in football terms (from an English point of view), the Ashes is the Champions League, all other Test series are the Premier league, ODI World Cup is the FA cup, and T20 World Cup is the League Cup. As a fan of a big club, I only really care about the League and the Champions League. It's like when United beat City last week in the FA cup. I was pleased because it is always nice to beat City, but i was not thrilled. If that result had been in the League, however, I would have been absolutely ecstatic.

Got to feel abit sorry for the likes of Dravid, Sachin and VVS as they always seem to be coming in to bat after 30Mins as the likes of Sehwag & Gambir are literally just giving there wickets aways.
The job of the openers is to get rid of the new ball shine to make it easier for the others but it seems its up to Dravid and co to do this.
