Mario Balotelli - a smoker?

A Chelsea fan here. Well done on your win tonight, not pretty but Dzeko's goal was top quality.

Is it true that Balotelli smokes 5-6 cigarettes a day? I was pretty shocked when i heard this, I can't name a single footballer in modern game who would damage their health through addiction! It used to be okay, Socrates did a packet a day and still played incredible, albeit he wasnt the most mobile even at his best. But football has changed, to win games you have to be well prepared physically for every game, I would imagine that damage done by smoke would be huge for a footballer.

And should clubs intervene? When Adrian Mutu had a white problem whilst a Chelsea player, the club made him redundant. Can you not argue that a player addicted to any harmful substance breaches their contract?

"i heard that mario only smokes after shex"

That would explain 5 or 6 smokes a day.

By this argument players should get into trouble for consuming alcohol, salt, chocolate and caffeine; all substances that have proven to be harmful, with evidence that suggests they are addictive x

I smoke (hopefully not for much longer if I get the motivation to knock it on the head) and whenever I played my legs always packed in before my lungs did

I don't think Özil smokes regularly and I don't think he drinks at all, he's a Muslim and its against their religion to drink.

Rio has his own cannabis farm, surely that's worse on several levels.

True. Don't know where TBK got that from as Mesut is quite devout.

And as of yet I fail to see any of them.

Zidane was also a Muslim but that doesn't mean that he didn't smoke.Same with Ozil and I am myself a Muslim.
