Is he the new Terry, are we going to build our leaky defence around him,or will he be just another crab in the bucket to be called upon if Terry is suspended or Ivan is injured?

Rio's only 12, give him a chance.

He'll be a steady, not spectacular success.
I'd like to welcome him and I hope he works hard to become top defender and eventually take over from JT.

I think it depends, if AVB is going to go through with his "philosophy" because if he does and the high line comes back then JT cant be playing because his lack of pace will be exposed time and again, AVB has already mentioned cahill's pace and technical ability

I don't think the pace of CBs matters so much in a high line because if any striker/winger gets a through ball and in behind the line, then nobody is catching them. It's won and lost in the middle of the park.

TGi I agree, Barce play a high line perfecntmy and Cahill and Puyol espiecally are slow. However for a team like us that is still learning as well as having players not suited having CBs who can run quick off the line and keep the ball well in position is very helpful

I am of the opinion that he is not Chelsea standard but just another player that was signed because he is available and eager to play for a big club even if he will spend ample time on the bench. I hope he proves me wrong though.

He's fine. He's an English international, relatively young and he fills the hole left by Alex. Not bad for 7 million. At least he's not Ben-Haim.

Do we know that yet?

That he's not Ben-Haim? Yes, I'm pretty sure.
