As reported in the Star today. MM keen to recruit Jason Scotland from Ipswich as a number one target.
Is this really the way forward? A 32 year old journey man who scored just 10 goals in 45 games for Ipswich. I don't understand this logic, do we need another Morrison? Will this club ever take a gamble on young talent? I'm a firm believer in recruiting much younger players who may lack experience but will inject some energy, determination and excitement into this current uninspiring dull squad. We need to bring the crowds back, a few fearless kids who will give their all is surely the way, not chasing 32 year old has beens to sit alongside Morrison, O'Connor, Potter, Sedgwick and Teale. Do we want the same dire performances delivered by the same old tired, boring players, or see some new young recruits to give us some belief and hope?? No contest for me.
Scotland-Number One Target?

Pretty much agree.
Forrest got stuck in this division because they fell into the same trap we have of bringing in veterans more interested in pay day than playing.
Was only when the kids came through that they turned it around.
Megson knows this because he inherited that team. So why take a chance on Scotland?
We took a gamble on youth in Jan with a 1 in 4 success rate. Not great but still better than what we managed from last Summer recruits.

It's a difficult one though intit.
MM is demanding promotion, it's understandable that we'll look at experienced players who've been there & done it to solve the short term problem & reassess in the summer.
.....and anyway the last batch of youth we invested in for the future has already been written off, haven't they, after a whole 3/4 months!
You say we should be doing that but unless they are instant hits then they don't get the time.
The only way they'll please everybody is by getting promotion, let them get on it & judge them when we've succeeded/failed.

I don't disagree, but the current goals for M&M are very short term (Meggy's probably even shorter term then Mandy's - ie top 6 at xmas)
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm sure Bolton fan's will disagree.... ) but Megson hardly has a reputation for bringing youngster's with potential on and developing them into the finished article. Especially not quick enough to meet the demands set by his chairman, himself, and the fans....? If he signs a load of youth but can't get them playing as a team or winning football games (even though they are hungry, or set the world on fire eh Gary...) where will he stand then. I'm not defending Meggo or his transfer policy by the way. I'm still unsure. Judging by the final 10 games of the season he may have what it takes to get us out of this league, but not much more. Thought I think its pretty clear it will take a very good set of results (from played 1 won 1) to please us as fans.
He will continue to bring in players who fit his tactics, and I don't know how many young players market themselves as cloggers. If we sign him Semedo he could well be the youngest we get.

I think we need a mixture, Young players are good for the future & when we are winning with good team confidence it allow them to play with flair. But when the chips are down & we need to grind out a result the flair get thrown out of the window & you need bloody mindness, the older players have mentality to do that.

Paul Walker confirmed that Barnsley enquired about Beevers but there was difference of opinion on valuation.
That suggests we'll sell if they can agree the fee!
