Youngy and Lineker

Great result tonight lads,

And a great thank you to BBC Radio Leicester for producing a wonderful interview/reunion with two of Leicesters finest centre forwards.

It was something that reduced me to tears, especially in the last 3 minutes when Gary asks "So how have you been?" and Alan tells the very dark and sad tale of his demise from being told "You need a rest big man" to going into a deep depression with seemingly no hope of return.

More of the same please from the beeb!

I Have been there and got the badge. So deep respect to Mr Young and you can hear the joy in his voice just being alive despite being a dour Scotsman.

I missed this due to wathing it on Sky Sports. Did Alan Young interview Gary Lineker? I thought Ian Stringer did all that?

What a fascinating programme this was- memories come flooding back, Andy Peake, Ian Wilson, Martin Henderson, Harlow Town, and of course the unintelligible Jock and the Wanlip sand dunes. I remember seeing Gary on his debut- I remarked to my friend, this kid will never make a footballer, he's too thin and gangly. And of course I was right- whatever happened to him?

Deep respect Youngy, I didn't know anything about his episode of depression, footy is a wonderful game but it's all just fantasy stuff, behind it there are real people often with broken lives. Glad you are back on top mate, you are a wonderful summariser although a real pain in the butt at times!

Filbert
I was there as well very excited a player my age i looked a bit like Gary not Youngy and all he did was fall over all game!

I kept going in to Habitat in the haymarket and asking Michelle out some reason she was more interested in some one else?

A wonderful piece of radio. Brought a tear to the eye.

I would like every young City player to listen to it just to get some grasp on reality and how lucky they are.

There are probably hundreds of Youngy's out there and well done Radio Leicester for giving him the job.

He has a great depth of experience to give back and it is a shame that more of these guys aren't more closely involved with the academy systems.

Nev, I remember the young Michelle Cockayne, a stunning girl as I recall, sorry shy didn't fancy you, she only went with men who had big ears- apparently she mis-heard the old saying to read "you know what they say about men with big ears..."

Yes, it was a brave idea and a remarkable conversation, which also increased my (already considerable) respect for Lineker. I have saved it as a podcast worth returning to.

Well worth a listen. It gets better and more poignant as it goes on.
