Question...

If you sign Falcao, how will you play him and Torres? I mean, they're top strikers, but Torres NEEDS a player sitting behind him to create and provide for him. Falcao is a pure goal poacher (seriously, this boy NEVER leaves the box!). Will he be Torres' back up? Or visa versa. What happens to Drogba also, 3rd choice when he is clearly superior to both?

Not a wum Chelsea fans. Just curious is all.

See that would be a mistake imo. Rotate your goalscorers and neither of them can get on a run of form. Falcao can't arrive to sit on the bench. Torres needs to keep playing to find his feet again, or he WILL become Shevshenco mk.2, so all in all I'd say don't buy Falcao. Looking forward to seeing what happens though, Villas-Boas will have a plan I'm sure.

I honestly can't see this appointment working out for Chelsea. I may be wrong but I have to say as a United fan he was who I wanted you to go for. Good luck anyway

They can't be played together which is why I'm more sceptical about the need for Falcao. We could easily just keep Drogba for second choice and bring in Lukaku who admitted he'd be happy being a squad player at a big club for the first few years.

"I would say We'd play Mikel up front with Bosingwa just behind him. Torres would be in the "makelele" role and Ramires in goals. Hope that helps."

Have you attended AVB's first coaching session...
I know he's young - but jeez, that's radical

It would only present a problem if the rest of the team had no creativity and discipline, the latter isn't a problem and bringing in Modric and/or Moutinho would be enough invention in the midfield (both deep and higher up)

They'd have to interchange, cross one another (it's a pity one of them isn't left footed), as long as they were both willing the sacifice a little for the other it wouldn't present a problem. Most top class strikers in the world will form a deadly partnership however similar their roles are provided they've got the right service behind them and are willing to feed off each other - Torres and Drogba last year didn't have either. If Falcao does come in we may be the only contenders in the league willing to play two out-n-out strikers

Sherifff I have high hopes of becoming a manager one day.

Simply put, to get anything out of Torres, you need to build your team around him, which means bringing in players like Mata and Sanchez for width and creativity, and a Kaka/Sneijder/Modric to play behind. No more 3 up front, because Torres HAS to be your centre piece or it won't work with him. Give him a support striker/fully attacking mid behind him, in a team with clever wide players and hed be great again.

There's A Thought.

Hit the nail on the head.

there's a thought

that's only based on the way their previous managers have utilised them, doesn't mean a partnership isn't possible (e.g. on paper, Milito and Eto'o has the same problem, but they've done very well together at Inter). It's all about the player's themselves, if they're willing to make it work it'll work.

Its just my opinion HHHBF, but Torres seems to have proven that, though he's a great striker, he has to be spearhead of the attack, or he fails. Even with Spain, When he played upfront with Villa, Villa had to go out wide or drop into the hole to work with Torres. Add to that that Falcao is not exactly flexible in his approach to forward play, and they will not work as a pair. Eto'o and milito are both experienced old heads who have far more footballing intelligence than Falcao or Torres, and also has Wesley Sniejder behind them.

nah i totally get what you're saying, that's where Villas-Boas earns his pay. He'll have to know Roman won't sign Falcao if it's a means of replacing Torres, so if he wants him he'll need to make it work. On prinicple, Torres looks the one more capable of being the one playing further back (extra yard of pace, has a georgous strike on his right foot, Falcao's better in the air, etc...), but in all catagories they're very much alike, especially in regards to quality movement, which'll allow them to interchange quite naturally in theory. But of course, the presence of a creative midfield is essential to utilise the movement, which is why we should do everything possible to get Modric.
