City okay Maynard talks with Wigan

Adam Baker tweets that City have given Maynard permission to open talks with Wigan. Fingers crossed this will bring the saga to a conclusion although I am worried that Wigan may not be able to satisfy Nickys needs.

Not here on the wind up, but I’m just interested on whether you’re still glad that you didn’t sell him to Leicester. Leicester City wanted Maynard, Bristol City wanted to keep Maynard and Maynard wanted to player PL football.

I can’t help thinking that if the move to Wigan goes through then Leicester still wouldn’t have landed their player (I’m not sure whether this is relevant post Sven anyway), Bristol City would have done themselves out of several million pounds and Maynard will be back in the Championship next season. With both our clubs likely to stay here too then the only person to have won from this whole saga will be Maynard’s agent.

Strange ...

It's fairly common knowledge down here that City were happy to accept Leicesters last offer but Maynard refused talks. So Can't blame our board but Maynard has cost us big-time as well as Crewe the club who discovered him who will now lose out to much needed sell-on cash.
Of course he may well turn Wigan down and opt for running his contract down leaving us with nothing but a harsh lesson to learn.

To be honest I’d not heard that rumour, but it would make sense. I could always understand the player’s reluctance to sign for another Championship club, but I could not understand Bristol City turning down the type of offers that were coming in. I honestly thought that he’d tipped your chairman a wink to say that he’d stay if no PL club came in for him.

I can’t help thinking that BC should have forced his hand a little by publically accepting Leicester’s bid. He’s shown a ruthlessness here (especially towards Bristol City) to manufacture exactly what he wanted and I can’t help hoping it doesn’t work out for him. With Wigan I don’t think it will.

Should have thought it was obvious guys. I'm willing to bet he has a clause in his contract where BCFC have to listen to Premiership offers over a certain figure.

Shane Long went to WBA for considerably less than LCFC offered but hey ho, that's football.

I think he has basically stiffed you and I suspect you will probably only end up with a couple of million after Crewe's sell-on clause has been met.

Still. You will be able to give him some stick when Wigan come down to Bristol next season !!!

Unfortunately Joby just another example of the power Players and their agents have these days. In Nickys case it is even more ridiculous as his agent is not even registered so technically the club are not even supposed to negotiate with the person although they have had to reluctantly I gather.
One thing is for sure is that Nickys standing amongst City fans has nosedived over the last few months more so than any player in recent history. I suspect Crewe fans will feel much the same.

The only way we stand any chance of getting back the money we paid for him is if we have a sell on clause and NM does well enough to be sold on at the end of the season.
