Stoke-on-Trent official to take charge at Wembley in August.
The Football Association has announced that Phil Dowd will referee the Community Shield between Manchester City and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on 7 August.

Not sure about this.The Stoke connection worries me but then again he did seem to favour Barcenal in that 4-4 not so long ago so maybe he has a dislike of the dark side.

It annoys me when people say "it's only the community shield" then add it as a trophy won at the end of the season!!! I think it will be a good contest, with neither side treating it as a "friendly". I for one am really looking forward to it. What a way to start the season!!!!!

The seasons we don't win it, more often than not we win the league. That said, the seasons we do win it, more often than not, we win the league.
As a trophy it is worthless, a bit interesting this year though. If City win, cue the "shift in the balance of power" headlines.
