I follow nugent on twitter. He doesn't seemed to be fazed by it as he keeps retwitting the vile post! Am shocked by them though. Gally gets grief too.

Disgraceful. Nugent did deliberately wind them up, and was daft to do so, but it's not remotely an excuse.

Such a shame that the paper decided to go with the heading 'Southampton fans'. No football club deserves to have this small minority labelled as their 'fans'.

People like this, who so flippantly use Gary Speed or Dean Windass as the butt of a joke, are not 'fans' and are not welcome within our football community.

Twitter should publicly name and shame, this is no better than the racist abuse Stan Collymore received, and as a consequence the police are absolutely correct with their intention to seek legal prosecution.

We should not make the mistake of tarring all Southampton fans with this brush though. Im sure 99% of them are decent and would be just as disgusted at this as we are. Unfortunately every club has its trash - including us.

I did enjoy watching Nugent wind them all up at St Marys though.

I don't get why Twitter don't administer the site and close down any accounts which are giving abuse - Okay the jack@sses can create a new account but they lose all their followers and would it really be worth going through the rigmoral of setting up a new account for a line of abuse.

Blackpool - It's an interesting point, but unfortunately it's part of the whole "free speech on the internet" phenomenon.

The basic problem for Twitter and sites like it is how do you come up with a law that punishes this kind of thing but cannot be manipulated by a tyrannical dictator type trying to oppress his people.

I know that sounds kid of extreme but my point is that Twitter will be reluctant to do much about this so it has to be up to these people's peers (fellow Southampton fans) to disagree with them, knock them down and maybe even name and shame them - I always think keyboard warriors look really weak and pathetic when they're being led into a courtroom after being found out.

My guess is a lot of fans use that word for Man U - Man U have more supporters than most so are likely to generate more complaints - The Admin will ban words if they receive a lot of complaints about them
