Does anyone else feel a little bit sorry for GMac over Rory winning the US open this year.
This time last year, pretty much nobody was talking about his victory. I mean not as dominate maybe, but he had to hold of a chasing pack which included Woods, Mickelson and Els, who I think have won a fair few tournaments between them and pretty much broke the mould being the first GB player to win a major in the 21st century.
A year later, Rory wins the same tournament and he is the hero of sport! GMac's odds on SPOTY at this time were 25/1 Rory's? 5/6.
Now I understand how dominant Rory was in winning, breaking records and all that, but if it was Westwood, Donald, Poulter, Casey who had done what GMac did last year, we would have heard a lot more about it, it's only the Ryder Cup winning putt and taking down a Tiger lead that lead to increasing plaudits of McDowell
One thing that Impresses me the most with him is how pleased he is for McIlroy and supportive, even though he knows he is deeply in his shadow for Northern Ireland.
I bring this up, still very bitter over McDowell not even making the top 3 of SPOTY last year to Ennis, Phil Taylor and McCoy, and we all know Rory has it in the bag unless Murray pulls a miracle off at SW19. I mean GMac beat McCoy to Irish sports personality!!!
Poor GMac

I think the difference is you can see McIlroy winning multiple majors. I do think GMac will win another one, but I can't see more than that. I agree what you're saying regards the difference in the plaudits however it's always the same when a young kid as good as Rory is appears on the scene. Lets hope he has the longevity to have a special career.

Hmmmmm, while I get the point of the argument, do I feel sorry for a bloke who plays golf for a living, flies around the world in private jets and makes shed loads of cash (even when not winning)?
No.

Should add that I agree GMac seems a top bloke though.
