Yep, 26 and useless.

I know what you mean, but he would offer balance and give Kuyt a well deserved rest in some games...its about squad strength; we need players like him to make us stronger.

Look at our rivals,

City= A Johnson, D Silva, SWP, J Milner
Utd= Nani, Valencia, A Young, Giggs, Park
Arsenal=Nasri, Walcott, Arshavin
Chelsea= Malouda, Benayoun,

LIVERPOOL=Kuyt,Maxi

Now look at Liverpool with these:

Liverpool= Mata,Downing,Payet,Kuyt,Maxi

See the difference????

I hope we bring in players that will improve the team. I'm not sure Downing would.

He delivers good crosses and he gets loads of them in the box. We have a striker that wins everything in the air, the two go together! Downing is an England international and was voted Aston Villas player of the year last season, by the people who watched him. He beat Ashley Young to that award and most people on here would have loved us to have signed him.

You have to ask yourselves if you trust the manager, which most do and then you have to trust his player recruitment.

He should be signed into a home already. How does he manage to run around the pitch at the grand old age of 26? I find it quite extraordinary. I mean, he does all this without a walking stick. Not a white hair in sight. Does he dye it?

The way some of our 'fans' talk, we may as well just put a mixture of our reserve and youth team out.

The Villa fans that I speak to say his game has come on loads and was a comfortably better player than Young last season.

villa want like 18million for downing, if we spend any more than 14million for him i will cry.

he's so amazingly average.

if we buy him for 18million lets say, we will then have spent a combined total of about £97million and only one world class player in suarez.

He's decent. He gets a pasting on these boards for not doing 10 stepovers and scoring 30 yard screamers. He is, by anyone's standards, a good player.

If you want to talk about what "value" is, well we can all talk on here for the rest of time about that.. The point is not whether he'll cost £18m or 18p but whether he'll improve the side.

I think he will. He will provide reliability in a position that we've been lacking since Patrick Berger left nearly 10 years ago.

He will provide for Carroll. He's got good experience and maturity, he does occasionally cross from too deep, but that is also to do with the calibre of teams he has been playing in for most of his career.

Mata is much much better. And There'sOnlyOneReds, Your not funny, and i thought he was 27, he will be 27 in a couple of months time. dats the same age meireless was when we bought him and now all of a sudden hes so old and we have to sell him. so downing isnt young by any means. personally, i prefer players that are under 25
