with all the talk about Barton, and Man Utd buying English players (Jones / Young) I think Arsenal need to get back to what made them successful and brought them their first silverware in the 80's and early 90's..
we need English Steel in our squad, Like we used to have with Adams, Bould, Seaman, Brady, Dixon, McLintock and Parlour etc....
we have the bones of an English squad with Wilshere, landbury, Gibbs Ramsey etc... we just need more...
I'd like Cahill, Parker, Baines and Barry Ferguson to join us...
what say you?
English Spine of Old... and now

You may have known what he meant but that's not really an excuse for ignorance is it?

Sorry, I didn't realise pointing out glaring inaccuracies equated to "stirring it up" in your world.

it's quite obvious that when he said english, he meant british/irish, as he has listed welsh, irish, english and scottish players.
then you come along and accuse him of ignorance for a simple mistake... yes, you are stirring it up.

No, I'm really not. Please stop trying to tell me of my own intentions.
I disagree that it was a simple mistake. He used the word english four times in his OP, so at best it was four simple mistakes. But I believe it was most likely ignorance.
If he did mean British/Irish players, why not just say that? And I'm not sure I understand his point as historically, english and Scottish players have very different styles.

well, if you weren't trying to stir it up, i apologise... however, you should work on how you word things, because you certainly came across as though you were.

I can infact reveal that it was a private joke...
I mention English in the title and on other occasions and purposesly put in a non English player in every section where i list players...
Brady is obviously Irish, Ferguson and McLintock Scottish, Ramsey Welsh etc...
interesting nobody commented on this;

when clearly we won silverware before the 80's....
maybe we should buy British, like Robbie Keane....

West coast don has a point. The article is all about the virtues of nationalism in football, but a lot of the players mentioned aren't from the country the op thinks they are. If the article was about anything other than the might of the English, it wouldn't matter.

Sorry missed the last post before replying.
Of course we should buy Robbie keane!

I considered the possibility your were wumming, but it seemed a bit too subtle for ja606.
"when clearly we won silverware before the 80's"
I don't really know the history of Arsenal so I'm afraid I missed that one.
"well, if you weren't trying to stir it up, i apologise... however, you should work on how you word things, because you certainly came across as though you were. "
I appreciate the apology, but I still honestly can't see what gave you that impression. Cultural differences, eh?
