Is that offensive to anyone?
I see this as a very slidey slope.... Where does it end? Everyone has a right to their opinion, however wrong it is, since when is hurting someone's feelings a criminal offence!!! I can take offence to all sorts of things, comedians say stuff that is out of order all the time, but there should be no law against it.... 1 person's comedy is another person's insult. What will we not be able to say in 10 years time?
Will it be a criminal offence for a Rangers fan to hope that Motherwell win the Scottish Cup because their opponents are Celtic therefore having some kind of sectarian reason for wishing Motherwell to win? If it is just about football then outlaw that stuff inside and outside football stadia on match day.
I remember a few years back there was a Danish cartoon that caused offence to Islam with its content, did anyone come out that there should be new laws to stop the cartoons? No. How are these laws any different? They are taking away more civil liberties in the name of words being offensive.... this is out of order as far as I can see and these people need to look at themselves very clearly before defining words as "Criminal", I for one, if I was ever convicted of a crime where I caused someone offence with my words would be taking this straight to the highest Human Rights court in the World.
There should be noone that disagrees that these songs that are sung or these words that are said are out of order, but are they really criminal?
The F word is banned from here but should I be arrested because it might cause someone offence?
The plain answer is no.
Racially or sectarian motivated violence is another thing completely, there is violence, which is criminal! Posting some words online should never be considered criminal, just don't read them.
This is about football, it is not about society, where there are many discriminations going unpunished.
Come on people, concentrate on the football, the song words are just another reason to point score and think we are better than our rivals.
